Description

June 1, DOPYERA FACIAL S TEAMING PAD Filed Nov. 13, 1935 IN VENTOR.
JOHN DOPYfR/I.
W ATTORN Patented June 1, 1937 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3 Claims.
This invention relates to improvements in facial steaming pads.
The general object of the invention is to provide an improved pad for steaming a persons face, such as beforeshaving.
Another object of the invention is to provide a facial steaming pad which is formed to fit a persons face.
A further object of the invention is to provide a facial steaming pad including novel means for holding the pad.
Other objects and the advantages of the invention will be apparent from the following description taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Fig. 1 is a face view of my improved facial steaming pad;
Fig. 2 is a view of the pad in an open position and including a filler member;
Fig. 3 is an end view of the pad shown in Fig. 1;
Fig. 4 is an 4-4 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 5 is an 5-5 of Fig. 1;
Fig. 6 is a view showing my facial steaming pad in use; and
Fig. 7 is a view similar to Fig. 1 showing a modified form of my invention.
Referring to the drawing by reference characters I have indicated my improved facial steaming pad generally at II]. As shown the device I'll includestwo similar members, a front member I2 and a back member I3. The members I2 and I3 are made from a heavy cloth material, such as turkish toweling. Each of the members I2 and I3 are formed with a substantially V-shaped notch I4 in the upper edge thereof intermediate the width of the pad. From each side of the notch I4 the upper edges of the members I2 and I3 curve outwardly as at I5 and then incline downward as at I 6 and have their sides bowed outwardly as at H. The lower edges of the members I2 and I3 intermediate the width thereof are curved upward as at l8 and on each side thereof are curved downward towards the sides I1 as at I9. The peripheral edges of the members I2 and I3 are preferably bound by cloth tape members which are stitched to their associated members as indicated at 2I.
As clearly shown in Figs. 3 and 4 the material of each of the members I2 and I3 is formed into a protuberant portion 22 intermediate the width of the pad which forms a recess 23 in the rear face of the pad, As shown the proenlarged section taken on line enlarged section taken on line tuberant portions 22 include tapered side walls 24 (see Fig. 3), an outwardly and downwardly inclined top wall 25, and a downwardly and inwardly inclined, bottom wall 26 (see Fig. 4). Each of the members I2 and I3 have an aperture 21 therein intermediate their width adjacent the bottom of the notch I4 and in the top wall of-the protuberant portion 22. The edges of the apertures 21 are preferablybound with cloth tape 28 similar to the peripheral edges of the members I2 and I3.
The members I2 and I3 are secured together along the edges I5 thereof as by stitching them together with thread as indicated at 29.
The front member I2 is provided on its front face with cloth pocket forming portions 30 which along the edges I4, I5, I6, and I! of the member 7 may be secured thereto by the stitching 2|. The
lower edges 3I of the pocket portions 30 are free from the member I2 and" are preferably bound by a cloth tape 32.
In use an operator positions his hands in the pockets 3!] with the palms engaging the front face of the front member I2. The operator then immerses his hands and the pad in hot water and by squeezing his hands together wringsthe pad out. Thereafter he places the pad II) on his face with the chin positioned in the recess 23 and his nose positioned in the notch I4 and firmly presses the pad to the face as clearly shown in Fig. 6.
In Fig. 2 I have indicated an auxiliary filler member, for use with the pad I0, generally at 33. This filler member 33 -is preferab1y made of the same material as the members I2 and .I3 but of a lighter weight. The filler member 33 is shown as including two members similar to the pad I0, a front member 34 and a back member 35. The peripheral edges of the filler members 34 and 35 are formed to the same shape as the peripheral edges of the pad members I2 and I3 and like portions thereof are indicated by similarly primed reference numerals. The filler members 34 and 35 each include a pyramid portion 36 having an aperture 3'! therein similar to the pyramid portions 22 of the pad I II. The filler members 34 and 35 are secured together along their edges I6 as by stitching 38.
When a filler member 33 is used, a plurality of snap-fastener members 39 are provided along the lower edge of the back pad member I3 and along the lower edge of the back filler member 35.
When the filler 33 is used the pad members I2 and I3 are opened as shown in Fig. 2 and the filler member 33 is secured thereto by the snapfastener members 39. The edges l6 of the filler member are then positioned adjacent the inner side of the pad edges I B with the back filler member engaging the inner face of the back pad member 13 and with front filler member 34 engaging the front face of the back filler member 35. The front pad member I2 is then folded down over the filler member with the inner face thereof engaging the front filler member 34. Thereafter the device I 0 including the filler member 33 is used in the same manner as previously described. After the pad l0 and the filler member are used the filler member 33 is preferably removed from the pad by disengaging the snapfasteners 39 and then the pad l0 and the filler member 33 are separately suspended from a suitable support to dry.
In Fig. 7 I have indicated a modified form of my invention generally at 40. In general the device 40 is the same as the device l0 except for the pocket members, and like parts thereof are indicated by similarly primed reference numerals. In the device 40 pocket forming portions 4! are provided on the outer face of the front pad member l2 and are secured to the pad member 12' along the edges l1, l9, and 42 with the pocket edges 43 towards the edges l6 unsecured. The pad 40 is particularly provided for barbers who generally work from the rear of a customer.
From the foregoing description it will be apparent that I have provided a novel facial steaming pad which is simple in construction and highly efficient in use.
Having thus described my invention I claim:
1. A facial steaming pad, said pad including two members, a back member and a front member, each of said members being made of a cloth material having a substantially V-shaped notch in the upper edge thereof intermediate the width of said pad, said members being secured together at the upper edges on each side of said notch, the remainder of the edges of said members being free from each other, a filler, said filler member including a front member and a back member, said filler members each having a substantially V-shaped notch in their upper edges intermediate the width thereof, said filler members being secured together along a portion of their upper edges on each side of said notch portion, the remainder of the edges of said filler members being free from each other, one of said pad members and one of said filler members, including coacting fastening means for removably securing said pad and said filler together.
