My invention relates to a combined magazine and extension stock for automatic pistols.
The primary object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a stock of the class referred to for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol for bearing against the shoulder of a person during the firing of the pistol.
A further object of my invention is to provide,
in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol of the magazine type and including means for successively and automatically feeding cartridges into the handle of the pistol for firing.
A further object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol of the magazine type and including means for storing a greater number of cartridges than that capable of being loaded in the magazine of the pistol.
A further object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an extension stock for connection to an automatic pistol having the advantage of receiving a greater number of cartridges to be supplied to the pistol at each reloading than the number of cartridges capable of being received by the magazine of the pistol when the stock is not employed for extension purposes.
A further object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, for the transforming of a, regular service automatic pistol into a fire arm of the type of a submachine A further object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, an extension stock of the magazine type for detachable connection to an automatic pistol designed to be used as a rifle or gun stock against the shoulder and for supplying cartridges to the pistol.
A further object of my invention is to provide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a combined extension stock and magazine for automatic pistols including cartridge feeding means travelling in the magazine and means for shifting the feeding means clear of the magazine when reloading.
Further objects of the invention are to provide, in a. manner as hereinafter set forth, a combined magazine and extension stock for the purpose referred to which is comparatively simple,
in its construction and arrangement, strong, du-
rable; compact, readily assembled, thoroughly efiicient in its use and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which may appear herein, the invention consists of such parts and such combination of parts as are hereinafter more specifically described and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown the preferred embodiment of the invention, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to which fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.

The drawings illustrate, by way of example, an embodiment of the invention as used in connection with a forty-five calibre automatic Colt pistol I I. The combined magazine and extension stock element is in the form of an elongated hollow body l2 having an upturned forward end l3. The body I 2 provides a magazine 35 designed to carry forty cartridges. A clip of forty cartridges for reloading is indicated at l5. It is to be understood, however, that the capacity of the magazine of my invention may be as desired and that the number of the cartridges of the clip 15 may be other than that as stated. The capacity of the magazine is greater than that of the magazine of the pistol. When it is deemed necessary to fire more cartridges than the pistol carries, as regularly manufactured, the operator removes the magazine from the pistol and inserts the.
upturned end 3 of body l2 into the handle of the pistol whereby the larger number of cartridges carried by body I2 will be successively and automatically supplied or fed, by a means to be hereinafter described, to the pistol to be fired. In this connection attention is directed to Figure 1. The forward end |3 of body i2 is notched, as at "3, for the reception of the pistol's magazine retaining means H, of known form, for coupling end portion B3 to handle I8 of pistol H.
The body l2 includes a pair of opposed sidewise abutting sections I9, 29 of like length and of any suitable material. Preferably, siection l9 will be of wood and section 29 will be of metal. The sections i9, 29 are of like outline and each is formed of an upstanding forwardly inclined forward end stretch, an upwardly extending curved intermediate stretch merging into the lower end of the forward end stretch and a rear end stretch merging into the rear end of the intermediate stretch. The upper edge of the rear end stretch is straight. The lower edge of the rear end stretch inclines downwardly throughout from the intermediate stretch. The rear end of the rear end stretch is rounded. The edges of the sections are flush with each other throughout. The rear end stretches are of materially greater length than the otherof said stretches. The rear end stretches gradually increase in height from their forward to ther inner ends, whereby that portion of the body i2 provided by the rear end stretches is of substantially triangular form.
The section I9 is in the form of an elongated flat non-channeled bar. The section 29 is in the form of a channeled bar opening inwardly and with the channel provided thereby capable of being closed at its rear end.
The top and bottom of section l9 are rabbeted, as at 2| 22 respectively. The rear portion of the rear end stretch of section 9 has secured in its inner face an annular split guide member 23 formed with a groove 24 extending from one of the split ends of member 23 to the other end.
The ends of member 23 are arranged at the bottomthereof. The rear portion of the rear end stretch of section l9 has its inner face formed with a recess 25 disposed axially of member 23 and opening into the outer end of a socket 25.
The section 20' is formed on its inner face with an upper flange 21, a rear end flange 28 and a bottom flange 29, The flange 28 merges into the rear ends of the flanges 21, 29. The major parts of the lengths of flanges 21, 29 are flush with the top and bottom edges of section 20. The remaining parts of the lengths of the flanges 21, 29 are reduced, as at 38, 3|, and inset with respect to the top and bottom edges respectively of section 20. The reduced parts 3|], 3| are at the forward end of section 20. The flange 28 is curved and formed in its lower portion with a cutout. The rear end of flange 29 is provided with a cutout forming a continuation of and in connection with the cutout in flange 28, a door opening 32 for a purpose to be referred to.
The flanges 21, 28 and 29 are seated against the rabbets 2|, 22 for spacing section |9 relative to'thebody of section 20. The section I9 is to be suitably'anchored to the flanges of section 29. Thesections I9, 20, in connection with the flanges of section 20 and a combined partition and guide element 33, provide an upper chamber or compartment 34 and a magazine 35. The latter extends from the rear end to a point inwardly adjacent to and in close proximity to the forward end of body i2. The compartment 34 is arranged at the rear end stretches of the sections I9, 29 and is of triangular contour. The element 33 forms the bottom of compartment 34 and a part of the top of magazine 35. The sides of the magazine are provided by the sections i9, 29. The bottom of the magazine is formed by the flange 29 and the lower part of flange 28. The magazine is open at its forward end and closed at its rear end by flange 28 and a spring controlled door 36 which closes opening 32 and is hinged, as at 31, to flange 29. The element 33 is seated in inner faces of the sections I9, 29. and includes a top 38 and a pair of sides 39 having their inner faces grooved from end to end, as at 39. The top 39 is of less length than the length of element 33 and extends from the rear end of the latter to the point of mergence of the rear end stretches with the intermediate stretches of the sections i9, 29. That part of element 33 provided with top 38 is arranged between sections I9, 20 in spaced relation to the top and bottom edges of rear edge stretches of sections I9, 29. That part of element 33 provided with the top 38 is disposed at a downward inclination from the forward to the rear end of top 38 and is also disposed in uniform spaced relation to flange 29. The remaining or forward part of element 33 is arranged to abut the inner face of flange 21.
The section 20 has mounted in its inner face an annular split guide member 40 having a groove 4| extending from one of the split ends of member 49 to the other end. The member 40 aligns with, is of the same construction as and is oppositely disposed with respect to member 23. The grooves 24 and 4| align with each other, are on the inner faces of members 23, 40 and provide guide passages for a purpose to be referred to. The members 23, 40 are arranged in the side walls of the compartment 34 at the rear of the latter.
The inner face of section 29 is formed with a recess 43 and a socket 44 which aligns with socket 26 and opens into recess 43. Socket 44 is arranged axially with respect to member 40, the latter surrounding recess 43.
Journaied in the sockets 26, 44 is rotatable shaft 45 which carries a drum 46 rotated in a clockwise direction by a spring motor 41 for unwinding a flexible pulling member 48 for a cartridge pusher device 49. The shaft 45 carries a gear 50 which, when the drum is rotated from the motor 41, drives anticlockwise a gear 5| which in turn operates clockwise a gear 52 and the latter in turn drives a gear 53 anticlockwise. The gears 59, 5|, 52, 53 are arranged in the recess 43. The shafts 54, 55 of gear 5|, 52 respectively are journalled in section 20. The gear 53 is carr ed by the shaft 56 of a winding reel 51 for the pull member 48. The shaft 56 is journaled in the sections I9, 29 and extends outwardly from section 20. The reel 51 is disposed at the vertical center of compartment 34. On the feeding of the cartridges, the gears 50, 5|, 52 and 53 provide a driving means for winding the pull member 48 upon reel 51 for the purpose of the pull member 48 acting to shift the pusher device 49 in a forward direction in the magazine 35 to deliver the cartridges to the pistol. The gears 50, 5|, 52 and 53 also provide a power transmitting mechanism to operate shaft 45 in an anti-clockwise direction to wind up the spring motor and to rotate the drum 46 in an anti-clockwise direction to wind the pull member 49 upon the drum, to shift the pusher device 49 clear of magazine 35 and to restore device 49 to its initial position which is above the rear end of magazine 35. When the gears act as a power transmitting mechanism for shaft 45 they are driven in an opposite direction to that in which they are driven from shaft 45. For driving the gears in the said opposite direction a sectional crank handle 58 is employed which is anchored to that end of shaft 56 which extends from section 20. The sections of handle 58 are indicated at 59, 68 and are hinged together. as at 6|. The handle section 59 is secured to shaft 56. The handle section 68 carries a pin 62 disposed at right angles thereto. The gear 53 has an opening 63 for receiving pin 62 for the purpose of locking the reel, gears, drum and spring motor from movement when occasion requires. The section'28is formed with an opening 64 for the passage of pin 62 when opening 63 aligns with opening 66.
The spring motor 41 is enclosed by drum 46 and has one end thereof attached to drum 46, as at 65, and its other end attached, as at 66, to shaft45. The flexible pull member 48 is of tape like form and has its rear end attached, as at 61, to drum 46 and its forward end attached, as at 68, to reel 57.
Adjacent the rear end of pull member 48 the follower end of the pusher device 49 is anchored, as at 69. The pull member 48 has that portion thereof which extends from the follower end of the pusher device 49 to the rear end thereof of a length to provide for the pusher device 49 to extend upwardly in the forward end i3 of body l2 the necessary distance to feed the rear end cartridgeof the load into its firing position.
with reference to the pull member 48, (Figure 1) it is shown in its initially set position and it will be seen that it has a plurality of windings 46 encompassing the drum, a stretch arranged in magazine 35 and extending forwardly of that portion of element 33 provided -with the top 38 and passing outwardly from magazine 35 through the forward portion of a slot 18 in flange 2i, a stretch passing upwardly over a pulley ii and rearwardly under a pulley 12 and a stretch extending rearwardly from pulley 12 into compart ment 34 and winding on reel 51. The pulleys ll, I2 are carried by shafts 13, M respectively, arranged in spaced relation and extend into the slot Hi. The shafts l3, 14 are suitably supported by the sides of an open bottom sight casing 15 which encloses the pulleys. The casing 15 in its top is formed with a sight opening I6 and a slot I1 spaced from opening 161 The top of casing 75 carries a thumb slide 18 for closing the opening it. The casing 15 is flanged at its ends, as at 18. Holdfast means 18: extend through flanges I8 for anchoring casing to flange 21!. The pull member 46 has its lower face formed with spaced indicators 19, 88 for separate exposure through opening 16. The indicator 19 consists of the word Full and the indicator 86 consists of the word Empty for indicating when the magazine 86 is full or empty. The position of the pull member 48 in Figure 1 would be such that the indicator I9 would be at a position for exposure through opening I6. The indicator 88 would appear at opening I6 after the last cartridge had been positioned for firing.
The cartridge pusher device as is flexible and includes an anchoring member 8| arranged at its follower end. The member 8| comprises a base 82 and a centrally disposed apertured stud 83. The base 82 is anchored to pull member 48 by the holdfast means 86. A set of spaced suspender members 86 of like form and the set is shown, by way of example, as consisting of four members 86. Each suspender member consists of an H-shaped body 86 having, at one end, a pair of oppositely disposed flanges 81. The flanges 81 travel in the grooves 24, 4| and 39 A combined suspender and door latch releasing member 88 consisting of a pair of spaced parallel side cheeks 89, each having its outer end formed with a protuberance 98, a flat edge portion 9| and an edge portion 92 inclining outwardly from portion 9|, a web 93 for connecting the cheeks 89 together and a pair of oppositely disposed flanges 94 at the inner ends of the cheeks 89. The flat edge portions 9| are interposed between the protuberances 98 and edge portions 92. The flanges 94 travel in the grooves 26, GI and 39. A combined suspender and pusher member 95 consisting of an angle-shaped body part formed of a bifurcated horizontal leg 96 and a vertical leg 9? integral at its inner end with the leading end of leg 96 and extended from the latter and a pair of oppositely disposed flanges 98 extended from the sides of leg 96. The flanges 98 travel in the grooves 28, 4| and 39 The leg 91 constitutes a pusher arm which is to abut the rear cartridge of the load. The members 86, 88 and 95 are arranged in spaced relation to each other by the interposition of links 99 therebetween. The links 89 extend into the members 88, 88 and 95 centrally of the latter. Pivots for the ends of the links are indicated at I80. The pivots are mounted in and pivotally connect the links to members 86, 88 and 95. The base 82, flanges 8T, 94 and 98, in connection with the bottom wall of the grooves 39 suspend the pusher device 49 in the magazine 35. The base 62. flanges 81, 94 and 98 connect the pusher device to the members 23 and 28 in encompassing relation with respect to a. winding of pull member 48. The rear end follower member of the set of suspender members 86 is seated upon the base 82 of the anchoring member 8| and the stud 8'3 of the latter extends into the said rear end follower member. Carried by the latter is a pivot Illl for and which extends through stud 83 whereby the said rear end follower member and the anchoring member 8| are pivotally connected together. The base 82 of the anchoring member 8| extends rearwardly from the said' rear end follower member 86.
Secured against the rear end of body i2 is a shoulder butt I82 formed with a cutout I03. Secured to the outer face of door 36, so as to bodily move with the latter, is a filler member |84 for the cutout I83. The inner face of door 36 is provided with a cavity I05 for a portion of its length. Anchored to the inner face of door 36 is one end of an expelling spring I06 which functions to force door 36 and filler member "14 outwardly against the action of a spring controlled latch ilii, to be presently referred to. The spring I06 is arranged in cavity I85. The latter forms a clearance for the operation of the spring |05 when the door is released. Secured to the sections i9, 26 at the rear end of compartment 34, is a transversely disposed pin I88 which constitutes an abutment for the free end of spring 16. The door 36, at its upper end and on its inner face, is provided with a shoulder I89 engageable by the nose no on the lower end of the latch I81 for releasably latching the door 36 in closed position. The latch i1 is pivoted intermediate its ends, as at I, to the inner face of flange 28 above the shoulder I09. The latch I81. at its upper end, is formed with a trip portion H2 inclining in a direction towards the drum 46 and extending into the path of the leading edges of the high parts of the cheeks 89 of the member 88 of the pusher device 43. The controlling spring for the latch III'I is designated II3 and has one end anchored to flange 28, as at H4, and its other end bearing against latch I01 in proximity to pivot H2. The function of spring H4 is to maintain the nose III) of latch I81 in engagement with the shoulder I89 to hold door 36 closed against the action of spring I86. The door 36 is automatically released so it will fly outwardly from door opening 32 whereby access may be had to magazine 35 for reloading through opening 32. The releasing of door 36 is had automatically on the return of the pusher device 49 to normal position whereby, as said device winds on a coil of pull member 48 positioned on drum 46, the high parts of cheeks 89 of the member 88 of the device 49 will engage the trip portion I I2 of latch I81, thereby shifting thev latter in a direction to-move nose II8 clear of shoulder I 89 to release door 36 whereby the controlling spring of the latter will shift it to open position.
The cartridge clip I5 includes a downwardly opening channeled holder bar II6 for slidably suspending the cartridges Ill. The bar II6 has its inner face provided with a pair of opposed spaced parallel grooves II8 extending from end to end thereof. The flanges II 9, at the inner ends of the cartridges I II, are positioned in the grooves H8. The bar H6 is to be of greater length than the length of a load of cartridges.
The sections I9, 20 have their inner faces formed with spaced oppositely disposed parallel guides I28. Each guide I28 is of cross sectional contour similar to that of member 23 or 48. The guides extend from the rear end of element 33 to the sides of the door opening 32. The guides I28 are employed for guiding the clip bar I I6 intoelement 33. Afterthe clip I5 has been entirely positioned in element 33. the bar I I6 is removed, and on the removal thereof the flanges N9. of the cartridges coact with the bottom walls of grooves 39 for suspending the cartridges in the magazine 35 in a manner as shown in Figure 1. The pull member 48 travels over the flanged ends of the cartridges in that part of element 33 provided with the top 38. The pusherdevice 49, when active, is carried forward in the magazine 35 by the pull member 48 to beyond the slot I8 to an extent whereby member 95-of said device will shift the last cartridge of the load past a curved resilient cartridge turning arm I 2I formed by a part of the reduced portion 38 of flange 21 at the forward end of the latter. The arm I2I has an inset hook end I2I extending into the magazine 35 at the forward end of element 33 (Figures 1, .212 and 13) and in the path of the cartridges so as to receive the latter. The cartridges are disposed at a forward inclination from element 33 with respect to the vertical during their travel from the rear end of magazine 35 to the arm I2I. The flanged end of a cartridge enters hook I2I and the latter functions to turn the cartridge from inclined to horizontal, as shown in Figure 1, whereby'the cartridge will be properly positioned when entering the firing chamber. The reduced portion 3| of body part I3 is formed with a clearance I'2I arranged opposite but below hook I2I for coaction with the latter during the turning of the cartridges.
Detachably connected to the top and bottom of body 12, in proximity to the rear' end of the latter, as at I22, I23, is a shoulder strap I24.
When using the combined magazine and stock element, the magazine of the pistol I I is removed from the handle I8. The latter is then mounted on and coupled to the forward end stretch of body I2 after the motor has been wound up and the reel and the drum are locked from movement. When the handle I8 is mounted on and coupled to body I2 the magazine 35 opens into the pitsol. The magazine '35 is then loaded by inserting a clip of cartridges therein. The reel and drum are then released to permit the starting of the motor which provides for the operation of the reel by the train of gears actuated from the drum. Immediately upon the starting of the motor the door 36 is closed and held in such position by latch IIl'I. As the reel and drum are driven the member 48 is pulled in a direction'towards the reel which carries pusher device 49 therewith and positions the said device at the rear cartridge of the load for the purpose of successively feeding the cartridges to the pistol as the device 49 travels from the rear end to a point in proximity to the forward end of the magazine. After the body I2 has been emptied of cartridges, the crank handle is employed to operate the reel and the chain of gear will be driven in a manner to wind portions of member 48 on the drum, which, in turn, will position device 49 in a concentric relation with respect to the drum. As device 48 moves concentrically with respect to the drum it will engage and actuate latch III! in a direction whereby the spring controlled door 36 which will fly open. The winding of the motor is had when the reel is operated by the crank handle. After the door 36 is released, the reel, drum and motor are locked from movement by the pin on the crank handle. The magazine is then reloaded with a clip of cartridges, reel, drum and motor released and door 35 closed whereby a feeding action of the cartridges will again take place.
The cartridges are carried in a shell track which ends at point A allowing them to skid off on the curved portion of positioning hook I 2 I as shown, at point B. On entering hook I2 I a they are partly positioned which causes an overlapping of the extractor grooves. The pressure at point C and resistance at point D cause a proper positioning of the top cartridge. Upon removal of top cartridge, the next one will pass through the hook and the process is repeated.
What I claim is:
1. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of. an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device traveling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, said device inter-engaging in said guide element when traveling in said magazine, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, and
means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure.
2. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, said device interengaging in said guide element when travelling in said magazine, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, and means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure, said feeder device arranged on said pull member adjacent its rear end and having its follower end anchored to said pull member.
3. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide, element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment. said device interengaging in said guide element when travelling in said magazine.
a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure, and means secur;d to said structure and coacting with means or the pull member for indicating when the magazine is full and empty of cartridges.
4. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, said device interengaging in said guide element when travelling in said magazine, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure, said door being spring controlled, an automatically releasable spring controlled latch for the door, and said feeder device and latch having coacting parts for releasing the latch when said feeder device is moved into said chamher.
5. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle ofan automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element coacting to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said guide element being formed with spaced parallel continuous means for interengaging in the cartridges during the travel of the latter through the magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a flexible door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part'thereof extened from said structure, said guide element disposing the cartridges at an inclination insaid magazine, and said structure being formed with means for turning the cartridges as they are discharged from the magazine from their inclined position to the horizontal.
6. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element coacting to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said guide element being formed with spaced parallel continuous means for interengaging in the cartridges during the travel of the latter through the magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said,structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a flexible door for normally closing said opening, a cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, a
,pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure, said operating means being operated in one direction manually by the said part to move said pull member in a direction to position said pusher device in said chamber, said operating means including a releasable spring motor formoving said pull member in a direction to make active said pusher device, and said operating means having interengageable parts for looking it from movement.
7. A combined magazine and extension stock fordetachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in-its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to thewardly of the cartridges "in the magazine for'" successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said chamber, the said operating means having a part thereof extended from said structure, said operating means including a reel operated in an anti-clockwise direction by said part and upon which said pull member winds off and on, a drum upon which said pull member winds off and on, a releasable spring motor for operalng said drum in a clockwise direction to unwind said pull member, a gear train between said reel and drum providing, on the operation of the drum by the motor in a clockwise direction, for the operating of the reel in an anti-clockwise direction to wind said pull member thereon and on the operation of the reel by said part in an anti-clockwise direction, for the operation of the drum in a clockwise direction to wind the pull member thereon and to wind up the motor.
8. A combined magazine and extension stock for detachable connection to the handle of an automatic pistol having a cartridge receiving compartment in its handle, a structure formed of an upwardly curved forward part and an elongated triangular shaped rear part, said structure being provided with means and a cartridge guide element to form a magazine therein extending from the forward end of said curved part to the rear end of said triangular part and a chamber in the said triangular part over said magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end for communication with the said compartment when said structure is connected to the handle, said structure being formed at its rear end with a cartridge loading opening for said magazine and a door for normally closing said opening, a flexible cartridge feeding device travelling in said magazine and chamber and having an extended pusher member capable of being arranged rearwardly of the cartridges in the magazine for successively and automatically shifting cartridges from the open end of the magazine into said compartment, a pull member travelling in said chamber and said magazine and carrying said device for imparting a cartridge feeding action thereto when said pusher member is disposed rearwardly of the cartridges, means within said chamber and connected to said pull member for operating the latter in opposite directions to provide for said feeder device travelling into and out of said magazine and into and out of said :hamber, the said operating. means having a part ;hereof extended from said structure, said feeder ievice arranged on said pull member adjacent its rear end and having its follower end anchored said pull member, said operating means in- :luding a reel upon which said pull member is wound on and off, a drum upon which said pull member is wound off and on, a motor for operating the drum, and a gear connection between the drum and reel for driving the latter.
9. In a combined magazine and extension stock for automatic pistols of that type having a cartridge clip receiving compartment in the handle thereof, a substantially angle-shaped stockstructure formed of a hollow upstanding forward part and an elongated horizontally disposed hollow triangular shaped rear part, said forward part having a portion thereof for extension into the compartment of the handle of a pistol, means adapted to be carried by the pistol and engaging into the said portion for connecting said structure to the pistol, said structure being provided therein with means to form as a permanent part thereof acombined cartridge guide and magazine extending fromits front end to a point in proximity to its rear end and a chamber above the magazine, arranged in and substantially coextensive with said rear part, said chamber opening at its ends into said magazine, a cartridge pusher mechanism normally arranged in said chamber, and means for shifting said mechanism from said chamber into and lengthwise of the magazine for feeding cartridges therefrom to the pistol and for shifting said mechanism from said magazine into said chamber.
10. The invention as set forth in claim 9 having the rear end of the triangular shaped rear part formed to provide 'a spring controlled door for access to the magazine to load it, a spring controlled latch within said rear part for the door, and said mechanism having means for actuating the latch to release the door when the said mechanism is shifted into said chamber.
11. The invention as set forth in claim 9 having the rear end of the triangular shaped rear part provided with means to constitute a spring controlled door for access to the magazine to load it, a latch arranged within said rear part for the door, and said mechanism having means for operating the latch to release the door when the mechanism is shifted into said chamber, the said means on said mechanism being arranged intermediate its ends.
12. In a combined magazine and extension stock for automatic pistols of that type having a cartridge clip recehring compartment in the handle thereof, a stock structure provided therein with means to form as a permanent part thereof a combined cartridge guide and magazine extending from its front end to a point in proximity to its rear end and a chamber above the rear portion of the magazine, said magazine being open at its forward end and at its rear end and adapted to have its forward terminal portion extend and open into the handle of the pistol, said chamber communicating at its forward end with said magazine intermediate the ends of the latter and opening at its rear end into the rear end of said magazine, said structure having means at its rear end to provide a spring controlled door for closing the rear end of said magazine, a cartridge pusher mechanism normally arranged in said chamber, means for shifting said mechanism forwardly and rearwardly within said magazine to respectively feed the cartridges at the forward end of the magazine and to move the mechanism from out of the rear end of the magazine and into said chamber, a latch engegcable with the door for closing the latter, and said mechanism including means acting when the mechanism is in said chamber to actuate the latch to release the door to enable the magazine to be loaded.
13. The invention as set forth in claim 12 having said cartridge pusher mechanism formed of a series of pivotally connected sections arranged in tandemwis: relation, the leading one of said sections being provided with a pusher member and that section immediately following the leading section being provided with the means for actuating the latch.
14. In a combined magazine and extension stock for automatic pistols of that type having a' cartridge clip receiving compartment in the handle thereof, a substantially angle-shaped stock structure formed of a hollow upstanding forward part and an elongated horizontally disposed hollow rear part, said forward part having a portion thereof for extension into the compartment of the handle of a pistol, means adapted to be carried by the pistol and engaging into said portion for connecting said structure to the pistol, said structure being provided therein with means to form as a permanent part thereof a combined cartridge guide and magazine extending from its front end to a point in proximity to its rear end and a chamber over the magazine, arranged in and substantially co-extensive with the length of said rear part, said chamber communicating at its forward end with said magazine intermediate the ends of the latter and with said magazine at its rear end, a cartridge pusher mechanism norm-ally arranged in said chamber, and means disposed in said chamber and in said magazine for shifting said mechanism from said chamber into and in a forward direction within the magazine for feeding cartridges therefrom to the pistol and for shifting said mechanism in a rearward direction to pass from the rear end of said magazine into said chamber.
15. The invention as set forth in claim 14 having that part of the magazine extended into the compartment of the pistol disposed at an inclination whereby the cartridge guide will dispose the cartridges at an inclination to the horizontal, and said forward part of the stock structure provided with means to engage the cartridges for shifting them from their inclined position to a horizontal position when fed into the pistol to be acted upon.
16. In a combined magazine and extension stock for automatic pistols of that type having a cartridge clip receiving compartment in the handlethereof, a substantially angle-shaped stockstructure formed of a hollow upstanding forward part and an elongated horizontally disposed triangular shaped rear part, said forward part having a portion thereof for extension into the compartment of the handle of a pistol, means adapted to be carried by the pistol and engaging into the said portion for connecting said structure to the pistol, said structure being formed in its top with an opening at the point of mergence of the forward part with the rear part, said structure being provided therein with means to form as a permanent part thereof a combined cartridge guide and magazine extending from its front end to a point in proximity to its rear end and a chamber above the magazine, arranged in and substantially co-extensive with said rear part,
said magazine having its forward and its rear end open, said.chamber communicating at its rear end with the rear end of the magazine and at its forward end with said opening, a cartridge pusher mechanism normally arranged in said chamber, and means Qperating in said chamber, said magazine and said opening for shifting said mechanism from said chamber into and lengthwise of the magazine for feeding the cartridges therefrom to the pistol and for shifting said mechanism from said magazine into said chamber.
17. The invention as set forth in claim 16 having the rear end of said triangular shaped part provided with a spring controlled door for access to the magazine to load it, a latch within said rear part for the door, and said mechanism havingmeans for releasing the latch to provide the opening of the door when the mechanism is shifted into said chamber.
18. In a combined magazine and extension stock, a stock-structure provided therein with means to form as a permanent part thereof a combined guide and magazine for shiftable cartridges, said magazine having a permanently open discharged end and a normally closed intake end, said structure being provided with a normally latched automatically releasable spring controlled closure for the intake end of the magazine, a cartridge pusher mechanism arranged within said structure, means for shifting said mechanism into and lengthwise of the magazine for feeding cartridges therefrom and for shifting said mechanism clear of the magazine from the intake end of the latter, and said mechanism provided intermediate its ends with means for unlatching the door when said mechanism is shifted clear of the magazine.
