My invention relates to cocktail shakers.

It has among its objects to provide an improved and simplified form of shaker of the recipe indin eating type. Further objects of my invention are to provide such an improved construction having improved indicating means wherein, While enabling the desired fixed relation between the beverage name and ingredient indicating means to be maintained relative to the rotatable indicating and selecting member, the name indicating means is so located and disposed as to be visible when the top is in place at the same time that it is more readily adapted to be kep-t clean and also adapted to permit ready connection or removal of the top. A still further object of my invention is to provide such an improved construction having the associated rotatable member and co-opera-ting beverage name and ingredient indicating means disposed on the top of the shaker in such manner as, While having the advantages mentioned, also to produce a construction adapted to be manufactured at lower cost. These and other objects and advantages of my improvements Will, however, hereinafter more fully appear.

In the accompanying drawings, I have shown for purposes of illustration severa-l embodiments which my invention may assume in practice.

Referring first to the construction shown in Figures l and 2, it Will be noted that I have shown therein a shaker comprising a bottom container portion i having a angeor rim 2 on the upper end thereof, and on which is disposed the bottom rim 3 of a top member having a usual rim portion 5 providing a pouring aperture in the top thereof and a removable cover or cap 6 disposable over this aperture, while improved indicating means, hereinafter described, are associated with these portions 4 and 5 thereof.

Referring more particularly to this construction, it will be noted that a member 'l is rotatably mounted o-n the top member Il, herein between a bead t adjacent the bottom flange thereon and a bead 9 at the loWer end of the portion 5 thereon. Further, it Will be noted that this rotatable member 'I is provided with suitable aperture means adapted to assume various forms but herein, as preferably, in the form of a simple single vertically disposed aperture lll having indicating mea-ns I l at its upper end and the body of the aperture adapted to expose any one of a series of ingredient indicating means l2. Herein it will also be noted that the latter means are formed directly on the top il in a series extending around the latter, with the several ingredients included in each disposed one above another. Further, it Will be noted that the indicating portion ll of the aperture l0 is'adapted to be disposed in the several rotatable positions of the member 1, opposite a series of vertically disposed name indicating means i3, herein formed directly on the outside of the portion 5. Thus, it will be evident that with the cap 6 removed, the member 'l may be rotated in such manner as to indicate the name of a selected beverage by means of its indicator l l and simultaneously expose through the aperture l0 the ingredients comprised in the selected beverage. It Will also be evident that either the member 'l or portion il may be held and the other rotated as is most convenient. Further, it Will be evident that all of the indicating mechanism is very conveniently and inexpensively disposed on the top 4 and in such manner that even when this member is on the member I, the device is usable with the name ndicaing means clearly visible whenever `the cap Yperforate cover having a knob II.

In the form of my invention shown in Figure 3, it will be noted that while the member 1 is constructed and mounted as previously described, the aperture It is reversely disposed so that the indicating means II is at the bottom thereof rather than at the top, with all name indicating means on top 5 eliminated and, instead, a series of name indicating means I4 disposed around the outside of the bottom rim 3 of the top member 4. Obviously, this construction is usable generally similarly to that previously described, but it will be noted that in it the name indicating means are visible even when the cap 5 is in position. Further, init, since the names are wholly on the outside of the rim 4, there is no di'culty with the same wearing 01T due to the wear of the cap, or with sticking of the latter when material accumulates in the name cuts or depressions in the outer surface of the member 5. f

In Figures 4, 5 and 6, I have shown a further modied construction generally similar to that shown in Figure 3 but applied to a diierent type of shaker wherein the body I is provided with a spout I5 and a handle I6 and a removable im- In this construction, the cover comprises a cover member I8 having a rim I 9 adapted to be disposed inside or outside the rim 2 of the portion I, herein inside the latter, while having a ilange portion I9' adapted to rest on that rim. Further, it will be noted that a slightly raised portion 2U is provided, spaced from the flange toward the knob El, and that a rotatable indicating and sel-ecting member 2l is rotatable on this portion 29 and provided with an aperture 22, similar to the aperture IB, adapted to expose a series of ingredient indicating means 23 disposed around they portion 2D and herein formed directly on the outer surface of the latter. In this construction, it will also be noted that a ilange 24 is provided on the portion 2l adapted to t over a corresponding flange 24', on the portion 2, and that the member 2I rotates relative to the knob I'I and is also provided with an indicator 25 on its periphery extending over the ange 24 and adapted to indicate selectively any one of a series of name indicating means 26 disposed around the portion i8 between the ange 24 and the flange I9. Thus, it will be evident that whenever it is desired to indicate the constituents of a particular beverage, it is only necessary to rotate the indicator or pointer 25 to a selected name indication 26, or vice versa, and thereby simultaneously expose the proper ingredient indicating means 23.

In the construction shown in Figure 7, it will be noted that, while utilizing a top 4 carrying a cap 6 and having a rim 3 carrying indicating means I4, generally similar to those described in connection with Figure 3, the top 4 has thereon neither a rotatable indicating member nor ingredient indicating means. Instead, it will be noted that while the top is of ordinary single construction, the body is of double or indicating type including an outer rotating shell 2'1 rotatable on an inner container shell 28. Further, the latter has thereon a series of ingredient indicating means 29, while an aperture 30, generally similar to the aperture I6 described in connection with Figure l, is provided in the shell 2T and adapted to expose the selected ingredient indicating means 2e when an indicator or pointer 3| at the end of the aperture 30 is opposite the selected name indicating means I4 on the rim 3 of the top 4. Attention is further directed to the fact that in order to enable the name indicating means I4 to be maintained in the desired predetermined relationship to the ingredient indicating means 29, the cover 4 is so connected to the container member 28 as to prevent relative displacement of the name indicating means with respect to the ingredient indicating means corresponding thereto. Herein, this connection is in the form of a hinge connection 32 connecting the rim 3 to the rim of the inner container member 28 which herein is provided on its rim 2 with a projecting portion 33 above the upper end of the rotatable member 2l. Thus it will be evident that while it is possible to have the name .indicating means I4 visible and on the top 4, and the co-operating rotatable and ingredient indicating means on the bottom, the name indicating means I 4 are maintained in the desired position relative to their corresponding ingredient indicating means 29.

In Figures 8 and 9, I have illustrated a further modied'form of the construction shown in Figure l wherein, while having the name indicating means on the top 4, it is possible to remove the top 4 bodily from the lower indicating container portion whenever desired while still insuring that the parts, when again assembled, will bring the name indicating means and ingredient indicating means into the desired xed relationship. In this construction, it will be noted that I provide a series of outwardly projecting grooves 34 on the rim 3 of the top which carries the name indicating means I4, and dispose these grooves irregularly about the periphery of the rim, while I also provide corresponding inwardly disposed grooves on the rim 2 of the portion 28 so that the top will only't on the bottom container in a predetermined position, i. e. with the proper name indicating means opposite its co-operating ingredient indicating means. Obviously, this construction, while insuring that the parts will be assembled in the desired relationship, will also eliminate any necessity for providing a more expensive hinge construction such as described in connection with Figure 7.

In the construction shown in Figure 10, it will be noted that the top construction is substantially the same as that described above in connection with Figure 3, while the bottom construction is generally similar to that described in connection with Figures 7 and 8, but provided with an additional set of indicating means. I-Ierein, it will be noted that the rim 2 on the inner container member 28 described in connection with Figure '7, is of greater height than in the construction there described, so that its upper end is adapted to receive the rim 3 of a top carrying indicating means I4 below the rotating indicating and selecting member l. Further, it will be observed that the bottom of the rim 2 itself carries additional indicating means thereon corresponding to the indicating means I4. These indicating means 35 being Xed to the rim 2, are thus maintained in the desired relation to the ingredient indicating means 29 on the body of the container 28, while the indicating means I4 being xed relative to the ingredient indicating means I2 on the upper cover 4 are also maintained in the desired relationship thereto. Thus, it will be evident that in this construction it is possible to indicate substantially twice as many beverages and recipes therefor as would be possible in any of the constructions previously described, while continuing to have the names of all of the beverages constantly visible on the outside of the shaker.

In Figure 11 I have illustrated a still further modified construction which may be used, if desired, in connection with any of the constructions shown in Figures 7, 8, and l0, which have a bottom rotatable selecting and indicating member. In this construction, it Will be understood that I continue to have a rotatable member 21 having an aperture 39 therein and ingredient indicating means 2S co-operating therewith and arranged as previously described and shown in Figures 7, 8, and l0. However, in this construction, the indicating means is in the form of a pointer 35 on the inside of the bottom flange 31 of the outer casing member 2l while a series of co-operating name indicating means 38 is provided in the form of radially disposed names formed directly on the bottom of the inner member 28. As a result of this construction, it will be evident that, while still having the name indicating means always outside the top and also always readily visible to the initiate, since all indicating means on the side of the shaker are eliminated, it is possible to produce an element of apparent mystery or novelty to the uninitiate when directions appear for producing a beverage named by him and included in the list on the bottom.

While I have in this application specically described several forms which my invention may assume in practice, it will be understood that these forms are shown for purposes of illustration, and that the invention may be modified and embodied in various other forms without departing from its spirit or the scope of the appended claims.

What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:-

l. In a cocktail shaker comprising a container member and a top member, recipe indicating sans on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means visible when said top member is in place and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with said name indicating means and selectively indicating difiere ent recipes in different positions of said rotatable means.

2. In a cocktail shaker comprising a container member and a top member, and a cover for the latter, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means visible when said top member and cover are both in place and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with said name indicating means and selectively indicating different recipes in different positions of said rotatable means.

3. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with one another and said name indicating means and selectively indicating different recipes in different positions of said rotatable means.

4. In a drink mixer comprising a liquid container member and a removable top member, recipe indicating means comprising a selecting and indicating member rotatably mounted on one of said mixer members and co-operating sets of name and ingredient indicating means, one of which sets is carried by said top member and both of which are stationary with respect to said rotatable member and selectively co-operate therewith.

5. In a drink mixer comprising a liquid container member and a removable top member,

recipe indicating means comprising an indicating member rotatably mounted on one of said mixer members, co-operating ingredient indicating means carried by one of said mixer members, and beverage name indicating means disposed on the rim of said top member and co-operating with said rotatable indicating member to identify selected ingredient indicating means in diierent predetermined positions of said rotatable member.

6. In a drink mixer comprising a liquid container member and a top member, recipe indieating means comprising a rotatable selecting and indicating member on one of said members and co-operating sets of aligned name and ingredient indicating means stationary with respect tosaid rotatable member and selectively indicated by said member in different positions of the latter, said rotatable member having means disposed longitudinally of the mixer indicating a selected beverage name while indicating the corresponding ingredient indicating means in alignment therewith.

7. In a drink mixer comprising a liquid container member and a top member, recipe indicating means comprising a rotatable selecting and indicating member carried by one of said members and co-operating sets of name and ingredient indicating means stationary with respect to said rotatable member and selectively indicated by said member in different positions of the latter, said rotatable member having elongated aperture means extending longitudinally of themixer indicating a selected beverage name while exposing the corresponding ingredient indicating means.

8. In a drink shaker having a container portion, a removable cover for said container portion, said cover comprising a top wall having a plurality of consecutively disposed recipes depicted on the upper surface thereof, said top wall having the names oi said recipes consecutively depicted on its upper surface and disposed so that each name is adjacent its correspondingrecipe, and an opaque indexing member overlying the upper surface of said top wall and substantially conforming thereto, said indexing member having an opening therein and being movable over` said top wall so that said opening may pass over said consecutively disposed recipes, whereby any desired recipe may be seen through said opening without confusion with the remainder cf the recipes and with the corresponding name being also visible.

9. In a drink shaker, a removable cover for a container portion, said cover comprising a top wall having a plurality of consecutively disposed recipes depicted on the upper surface thereof, said top wall having the names of said recipes consecutively depicted on its upper surface and disposed s-o that each name is adjacent its corresponding recipe, and an opaque indexing member overlying the upper surface of said top wall and substantially conforming thereto, said indexing member having an opening therein and being movable so that said opening may pass over said consecutively disposed recipes, whereby any desired recipe may be seen through Said opening without confusion with the remainder of the recipes and with the corresponding name being also visible.

In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with one another and said name indicating means and likewise carried on said top.

1l. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container member and a topA member, recipe indicating means on one of said members comprising beverage name indicating means and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with one another and said name indicating means, one of said last mentioned means including an elogated aperture selectively exposing the ingredients corresponding to different selected names.

12. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a pouring aperture extending therethrough, recipe indicating means disposed on said top in non-conflicting arrangement with said aperture and comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said top cooperating with one another and said name indicating means.

13. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a pouring portion, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top disposed coaxially with said pouring portion and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said top cooperating with one another and said name indicating means.

14. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a pouring portion, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said top cooperating with one another and said name indicating means including a rotatable apertured indicating member journaled on said top below said pouring portion and a series of cooperating stationary ingredient indicating means on said top selectively exposed by said apertured means.

15. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a pouring portion and a depending lower rim, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and cooperating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said top including a rotatable apertured indicating member journaled on said top below said pouring portion and above said rim.

16. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a rim portion, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said rim portion and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said shaker cooperating with one another and said name indicating means on said rim.

17. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with one another and said main indicating means and likewise carried cn said top including an apertured rotatable member in different positions thereof indicating a selected name and exposing corresponding ingredients.

18. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container member and a top member, recipe indicating means on said Shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on one of said members and co-operating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on the other member of said shaker, 'and means between said top and container members for insuring location of said name and stationary ingredient indicating means in predetermined relation following opening of said top member.

19. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top, cooperating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said shaker, and means between said top and container for insuring location of said name and stationary ingredient indicating means in predetermined relation following opening of said top.

20. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top, cooperating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said shaker, and means between said top and container for insuring location of said name and stationary ingredient indicating means in predetermined relation following opening of said top comprising co-operating elements on said container and top.

21. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top, cooperating rotatable andstationary ingredient indicating means on said shaker, and means between said top and container for insuring location of said name and stationary ingredient indicating means in predetermined relation following opening of said top comprising longitudinally separable means on said container and top connectible only in a predetermined angular relationship.

22. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container anda to-p, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said top and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means cooperating with one another and said name indicating means, said rotatable and stationary means being carried on said container.

23. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container and a top having a depending peripheral rim disposed outside the upper end of said container, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said rim and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said shaker cooperating with one another and said name indicating means.

24. In a cocktail sha-ker comprising a lower container and a top having a depending peripheral rim disposed outside the upper end of said container, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on said rim, cooperating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said container, and means on said container and rim for locating said name indicating means in a predetermined relation to said stationary ingredient indicating means.

25. In a cocktail shaker comprising a lower container member and a top member, recipe indicating means on said shaker comprising beverage name indicating means on one member and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on the other member cooperating with one another and said name indicating means, and longitudinally connectible interlocking means on said container member and top member co-operating to permit connection thereof only in a predetermined angular relationship.

26. In a cocktail shaker comprising a container member and a top member, a plurality of name indicating means, one on said top member and one on said container member, and cooperating rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means one on said container and` one on said top and each cooperating with a diierent name indicating means.

27. A cocktail shaker cover having thereon a plurality of cover members, including one carried on another and either of said latter members rotatable relative to the other, and recipe indicating means on said cover comprising beverage name indicating means on one member and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on different members and cooperating with one another and said name indicating means and selectively indicating diierent recipes in different positions of said rotatable means.

28. A cocktail shaker cover having th-ereon a plurality of cover members, including one car- `ried on another and either of said latter members rotatable relative to the other, and recipe indicating means on said cover comprising beverage name indicating means on one member thereon and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on diiTerent members cooperating With one another and said name indicating means and selectively indicating diferent recipes in diilerent positions of said rotatable means, said cover also having a pouring aperture therein extending through said cover members and disposed in nonconflicting relation with said recipe indicating means.

29. A cocktail shaker cover comprising relatively adjustable cover members thereon and having a cover member having a iiange connectible to a container, a second cover member on said first mentioned cover member and disposed above said iiange, and recipe indicating means on said cover comprising beverage name indicating means on said first mentioned member and rotatable and stationary ingredient indicating means on said first and second mentioned members cooperating with one another and said name indicating means and including an aperture in the latter member and selectively indicating selected recipes in selected positions of said stationary and rotatable means.
