Description

  • This application claims priority to U.S. Provisional Application Ser. No. 61/396,246, filed May 24, 2010.
  • BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
  • The invention is directed to a pillow made in replica of a purse that is inserted into a handbag or purse. The purpose is to maintain the contour of the handbag or purse and to maintain its shape, structure and freshness while being stored or when the handbag or purse is not in use.
  • The marketing and sales of designer handbags, popular brand handbags, finer handbags, and other handbags has been continuously growing. Consumers own and maintain a large number of the handbags since they generally are in style and last longer. The handbags usually hold their value and are often sold on EBay and other merchandising websites, and it is important to maintain the shape and overall look of the handbags. Since they are sometimes stored in closed spaces such as closets and the like, it is also advantageous to maintain a fresh smell in the bag.
  • Accordingly, maintaining the shape and a fresh smell to handbags, especially expensive designer, brand name, finer handbags, and other handbags is a problem to which considerable attention needs to be given.
  • SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
  • The above objectives are accomplished according to the present invention by providing a handbag pillow for maintaining the shape and freshness of a handbag. The handbag pillow comprises a pillow dimensioned to fit within the handbag having a closed periphery; and a pillow stuffing filling said pillow having multi-dimensional clusters to maintain the pillow in a shape which is generally the interior shape of the handbag so that the shape of the handbag is maintained. A scented sachet is carried within the pillow stuffing containing a scented filling for maintaining the freshness of the handbag. Preferably, the handbag stuffing includes polyester fiber having resilient fiber clusters to maintain the pillow shape. The periphery of the pillow is preferably closed by stitching or other suitable means, and the sachet includes a bag constructed from a breathable fabric and the filling includes scented rice.
  • DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
  • The construction designed to carry out the invention will hereinafter be described, together with other features thereof.
  • The invention will be more readily understood from a reading of the following specification and by reference to the accompanying drawings
  • FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a handbag containing a handbag pillow for shape and freshness according to the invention;
  • FIG. 2 is an end view of a handbag containing a handbag pillow for shape and freshness according to the invention;
  • FIG. 3 is a perspective view of a handbag pillow constructed according to the invention;
  • FIG. 4 is a view of a scented sachet bag according to the invention.
  • DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT
  • Referring now to the drawings, the invention will now be described in more detail.
  • As can best be seen in FIGS. 1 and 2, a conventional handbag 10 is illustrated including a bag 12, closure flap 14 and a closure member 16 securing the flap to the bag in a closed condition. Typical handbags often include a zipper closure over the top opening (not shown). The use of the term handbag is intended to mean a bag, purse, small suitcase, briefcase, or any other carrier, tote, and the like of soft construction requiring its shape to be maintained. Handbag 10 is shown with a handbag pillow A placed in the handbag for retaining its shape. Pillow A is filled with soft, environmentally friendly stuffing 20 which provides the overall support and allows the pillow to take on the shape of the handbag or purse to maintain their shape. Preferred pillow stuffings are those which are not treated with chemicals and are naturally resistant to deterioration and breakage and known for excellent insulation properties for all seasons, but various types of stuffing can be looked upon for use as to create the most durable, efficient, and useful product. For example, 100% polyester fiber or polyester/cotton blend may be used. Polyester fibers are arranged in 3-dimensional clusters that help the pillow hold its shape and, thus, to hold the handbag in its shape. The polyester is resilient with good spring back. Suitable polyester stuffing is available from Fairfield Processing, 88 Rose Hill Avenue, Danbury, Conn. Preferably, the pillow is closed about its periphery by stitching 22 so the stuffing is not accidentally lost. Other closures including, perhaps, releasable closures may also be used. As best seen in FIG. 3, the pillow represents an actual pillow and may also include a fake closure for esthetics formed by stitching 24 or other means.
  • As can best be seen in FIGS. 2 and 3, within the core or interior of pillow A lies a small container, bag, or sachet B of scented rice 26 or other matter, e.g. beads, that may be treated with a scent such as lavender or any chosen scent. Scented rice is preferred because it has been found, according to the invention, that the scent on rice lasts a very long time. The stuffing and sachet is stitched inside the pillow to provide a unitary product and prevent accidental loss. The container, bag, or sachet is preferably a breathable fabric which will allow the scented matter to breathe through the fabric. This will put out a soothing smell from the pillow. As a result, the pillow, as well as the handbag, will maintain its freshness even after years of storage. The bag fabric may be a light synthetic mesh fabric, natural pillow-style tea bag fabric, without strings or tags, or other suitable breathable fabric. Suitable mesh fabric and sachet bags are available under the name Bag-It's™ from Craft Peddlers of Concord, Calif.
  • While accommodating handbags and owners, the goal of pillow A is to help the environment as well. If handbag pillows are purchased by handbag and purse makers it will eliminate the need to use wasteful paper that is used in all handbags and purses on store shelves which goes to our wasteland. The use of handbag pillows can save many trees by eliminating the need for paper as fillers in handbags and purses. Although the goal of handbag pillows is to eliminate wasteful paper before it reaches the consumer. Handbag pillows may also be purchased individually by consumers for use in prior purchased handbags and purses
  • Handbag pillow A will be made with wonderful prints and colors and made soft to the touch but sturdy enough to maintain the contour of handbags. Handbag makers also may have their logo or their name on the handbag pillow as an additional marketing tool. Being that there are many different sizes and shapes of handbags, handbag pillows will come in multiple shapes and sizes.
