Abstract
A multi-function backpack-vest that allows for size adjustment so that the backpack-vest may be worn by any user, regardless of size. The backpack-vest has various compartments in which users may place items. Some of these compartments are so designed that body-armor, personal floatation materials or insulation material may be placed within them. Also, the backpack-vest features a compartment in which a laptop may be placed and when housed in said compartment the laptop will be supported on a work platform, which is supported by straps on either side of said platform, connecting the platform to the backpack-vest.
Description
- This application claims priority to and claims the benefit of the previously filed U.S. provisional patent application, U.S. Application No. 61/049,493, filed on May 1, 2008.
- The present invention relates generally to backpacks and vests with various pouches, compartments, accessories and attachment means and comprised of various materials and fabrics to easily perform various functions. The functions of the backpack-vest device are provided by the backpack device as a stand-alone unit and with the backpack device being used in conjunction with various removeably attached accessories and pouches, wherein these removeably attached accessories and pouches are part of the instant invention.
- Various backpacks and vests have been developed in the past that attempt to meet the needs of users and accommodate virtually any size. Some backpacks and vests became littered with small individual pockets to carry numerous first aid devices, while others were designed for hunting. Some designs even provided seats that folded out from the unit itself.
- While these earlier backpacks and vests met some of the needs of users for their specific functions in the past, still other desirable functions were not met. Hunters, for instance, may benefit by a pack or vest that provides protection from errant shots from other hunters. Also, previous attempts may fail to accommodate any size for a given user (a one size fits all unit). Additionally, hikers and boaters may prefer that they could have a backpack or vest that can provide them with some type of flotation means. Further, it would be nice if a user could choose not to use all possible features offered by the backpack or vest at a given time, to avoid the need to carry unneeded gear and weight. Also, it would be beneficial if a user could have the option to add additional insulation, especially if a user expected to move from a warm climate to a cold one (mountain hikers for instance).
- Not to be forgotten is the fact that over time, new devices have been created that these previous attempts could not have anticipated and thus, to accommodate demands for a backpack or vest that may assist users with such devices has never been attempted. For instance, a backpack or vest that may contain a compartment to hold a laptop, that may extend outward and then horizontally support the laptop, thus allowing the user to carry with them a kind of small, portable laptop desk within their backpack or vest.
- What is needed is a multi-function backpack or vest apparatus that provides size adjustment, flotation, body-armor protection or additional insulation as well as the ability to carry a type of portable work desk. What is also needed is a backpack or vest that allows the user to pick and choose which features to implement at a given time to save on the carrying of additional gear and weight. The instant invention provides all of this required functionality.
- The instant invention, as illustrated herein, is clearly not anticipated, rendered obvious, or even present in any of the prior art mechanisms, either alone or in any combination thereof. A multi-functioned backpack-vest device designed to overcome the previously mentioned shortcomings would give users a much more effective means of having one wearable device that provides them flexibility to meet numerous needs. Thus, the several embodiments of the instant invention are illustrated herein.
- Therefore, it is an object of the present invention to overcome the previously mentioned shortcomings found in prior art backpacks and vests by providing a multi-function backpack-vest device thus will be adjustable in its sizes so that one unit can be worn by people of any size.
- Another object of the present invention is to provide a multi-function backpack-vest device that also optionally provides a wearer the means to carry body armor.
- A further object of the present invention is to provide a multi-function backpack-vest device that also optionally provides a wearer the means to carry personal floatation material.
