IMPROVEMENT IN WINDMILLS.
- Specificatiorf forming part of Letters Patent No. 200,874, dated March 5, 1878 application filed February 7, 1878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, FABIAN ROBERT, of Monro'e,in the county of Monroe and State of Michigan, have invented an Improvement in Windmills, of which the following is a specification: V
The nature of my invention'relates to an improvement in wind-wheels of the horizontal variety; and consists in the peculiar construction and conformation of the same, as more fully hereinafter set forth.
Figure 1 is a perspective view. Fig. 2 is a sectional plan of the wheel.
In the drawing, A represents the wheel, preferably constructed of sheet metal, and consisting of three recurved trough-shaped arms, A, arranged tangentially to an axis, B,
passingthrough the top and bottom plates of the central part or body A. The upper front naled.
The wind, striking fairly into and against one arm, is deflected through it and strikes the preceding one obliquely, and this one, just before it becomes tangent to the plane of direction of the Wind, the latter impinges against the lip a and impels forward. Before this, however, the outer end of the arm and its upturned extension A are directly in the path of the wind, and it acts upon them until they pass behind the first.
It will be seen, then, that two of the arms are being acted upon by the wind continually While one arm is opposing it.
I claim as my invention- The wheelA, having three concave arms,A, arranged tangential to its axis, each arm terminating in the curved extension A and provided with the lip a, substantially as described.
