Assuming now that it is desired to load the cartridge holder, the cover is removed; rendering the handle I! accessible, The operator now rotates the rotor 4 in a counter clock-wise direction until the locking spring I3 enters the slot or recess M of the rotor. The rotor is now stationary and the operator has both hands free to load cartridges into'the individual cartridge re- I .ceiving pockets of the rotor. The casing is provided with any desired or conventional' means for aligning'it with the machine gun or rifle with which it'is used, such as for example, the slotted bracket secured to the side wall of the body portion of thecasing;

presentinstance, shown and described apreferred embodiment thereof which will "give in practice satisfactory and'reliable results, it"is to be under ,stood that this embodiment is susceptible of modi ing individual cartridge receiving means at its periphery, means to cause a rearward movement of the cartridge as it is fed towards said opening, means to cause a cartridge in registry with said opening topass through it, and means to efiect a forward movement of a cartridge after it has passed through said opening.
2. A cartridge magazine comprising a sectional casing having an unobstructed central opening,
one section of, which has a delivery opening, a
spring actuated rotor in said casing and having individual cartridge. retainers at its periphery, means to cause cartridges toprogressively pass from said rotor through said delivery opening, a holder, .on a casing section to receive a cartridge 1 and a ramp on the casing at the discharge end of said holder to tilt upwardly the forward end of a cartridge asit is being fed from the holder.
3. A cartridge magazine, comprising a sectional casing, one section of which has a delivery opening, a spring actuated rotor having individual cartridge'retaining means'at its periphery, a cartridge pick up to remove a cartridge from said:
rotor andguide it to said delivery opening, a ramp to cause rearward longitudinal movement .of' a cartridge being fed to'said opening, a cartridge holder exterior of said-opening, and means to cause a forwardlongitudinal travel of acartridge passing into said holder, so'that its rim or base will be in 'advance of 'the nextcartridge fedto said holder. l
