Description

Patented Jan. 29, 1935 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE 3Claims.
My invention relates to an improvement in child's diapers which are made in the form of pants with leg openings. These are found preferable to the type of diaper requiring safety pins or the like to secure the diaper in place.
In this type of pant diaper it is desirable to have a considerable amount of absorbent fabric incorporated in the diaper especially in the front and back portions and the crotch portion of the diaper, but if the pant diaper is made in this form it is difficult to wash and takes considerable time in drying and airing on account of the thicknesses of absorbent fabric.
An object and feature of my invention is incorporating in the pant type of child's diaper the band or strip of absorbent fabric which may be folded into the pant part of the diaper conforming in shape somewhat to the front and back portions of the diaper and the crotch portion. This is disconnected from the inside or crotch portion of the diaper so that for washing and drying the band or strip may be pulled out of the pant structure.
In more detail, an object and feature of my invention is securing to the waist band of a pant type diaper, an absorbent band or strip of fabric which may be folded downwardly into the diaper and fits. snugly against the front and back portion and the crotch portion of the diaper between the leg openings. On account of this strip being loose in the pant part of the diaper it may be used to suspend the diaper as a whole for drying, and thus expose the pant part and the strip to the air for drying and airing.
My invention is illustrated in connection with the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the diaper in position when worn.
Fig. 2 is a vertical section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1 in the direction of the arrows.
Fig. 3 is a view similar to Fig. 1 with the crotch band flap drawn upwardly in a position for hanging the diapers for drying.
Fig. 4 is a vertical section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 3 in the direction of the arrows.
In constructing the diapers I make use of a pant type of structure designated generally by the numeral 11. This has a waist band 12 which preferably has elastic incorporated therein, the elastic forming pleats indicated at 13. Extending downwardly from the waist band there are the side portions 14 and front and rear portions 15, these latter at the bottom forming a crotch section 16. There is a pair of opposite leg openings 17, the bottom of the leg portions being spaced apart of the wide crotch portion. This constitutes an ordinary or known type of child's diaper of the pant construction.
edges 21 which diverge outwardly from the front rear portions 19 and 20. They have curved notched sections 22 to conform to the shape of the lower part 23 of the leg openings 17 but the measurement across the portion 24 at the back of the notched-out portion of the band is wider than the measurement across the crotch portion indicated at 25 at the crotch section 16. This allows the band to conform to the shape of the leg opening but to be slightly wider at the back or seat portion of the diaper than at the front.
When the diaper is worn the band 18 is folded downwardly inside of the pants structure and there is thus a double thickness of fabric in the front portion of the diaper at the seat portion and between the crotch, the diaper with sufficient tightness around the child's waist to hold the diaper in place.
The strip 18 may be readily folded outwardly for washing and drying'the diaper as indicated in Figs. 3 and 4, and this band section forms a fabric support for suspending the pant diaper structure for drying, thus allowing the diaper to be quickly dried and aired.
Various changes may be made in the details of construction without departing from the spirit or scope of the invention as defined by the appended claims:
I claim:
1. A diaper having a pant structure with leg openings, a crotch portion between the leg openings and a waist band at the top combined with a fabric strip secured solely to the front and back of the pant structure adjacent the waist band and fitting loosely inside the pant structure above the crotch section and being disconnected from such section, the said strip being withdrawable from the pant structure for suspending the diaper.
2. A diaper having a pant structure with leg openings, a crotch portion at the bottom between the leg openings, a waistband at the top, a front and back portion extending from the crotch portion to the waist band combined with a fabric strip secured solely at the front and back ad-.
jacent the waist-band, said strip having a crotch portion and a front and back portion to fit loosethe waist-band holding 1y inside the pant structure when in operative position and to thereby have the crotch portion of the strip forming an inside covering for the crotch portion of the pants and the front and back portions of the strip form coverings on the inside for the front and back portion of the pants, the strip being disconnected from the crotch portion and disconnected adjacent the leg openings, said strip being withdrawable from the pant structure by turning inside out whereby the crotch portion and the front and back portions of the strip may be utilized to suspend the pant structure by the front and back connections of the strip to the pant structure adjacent the waist band.
3. A diaper as claimed in claim 2, the crotch portion of the strip having curved notched sections to conform to a portion of the leg opening adjacent the crotch of the pant structure and the width of the crotch portion of the strip between the curved notches being substantially equal to the width of the crotch portion of the pant structure between the lower portion of the leg openings.
