An object of the invention is to provide means {or slitting a: mumweb into a plurality of ribbons and distributing the ribbonsat will among a plurality of single-color webs. V
, Iria copending application Serial No. 517,138, filed February 20, 1931,,1 described a web print- .ingjipress' comprising a plurality of single-color W perfecting press units and a pair of multi-color press units adapted to print a perfected multiolor web, with means for slitting the latter ,and assembling the slit port ions with the .singlecolor webs and in; any desired position with respect.to saidwebs, after which the assembly of webs is -passed through a folder to produce a ;.unita ry; product. In the accompanying drawings; 1 Figure 1 is a somewhat diagrammatic view of a preferred arrangement of single-color and multi-color printing units; g
Fig.2 is a diagrammatic end elevation, on a larger scale, looking inthe direction of the ar row. 2, in Fig. 1; v Fig. 3 is a diagrammatic plan view of a modified arrangement of single-color and multi-color press units; and i Fig. 4 is a somewhat diagrammatic side elevation, on a larger scale, looking in the direction of the arrow 4 in Fig. 3. i
The web press shown in Figs. 1 and 2 comprises a plurality of perfecting press units A. B, C, D and E, and a pair of multi-color press units F and G.' Each perfecting press unit comprises a pair of printing couples 10 and 11 and 12 and vl3, whereby webs passed successively through these couples will receive a single-color impression on each face thereof. It be understood, however, that'the' color of the impression on one face may bedifierent from that on the other, if so desired. Each of the perfecting press units is driven by an overhead motor 14 through" a chain belt 15, as shown in Fig. 2. Means, not shown, but well known in the art, are provided to E in perfect register. The webs from the units A to E respectively, are carriedupto an assemblingmechanism indicated generally by the reference numeral 16,- in
an individual drag roll 17 (Fig. 1) where it is cut by a slitting roll 18 into two half webs. Angled turning bars 19 and 20are provided for turning the halfwebs at one side ofthe center line under and into alineo5 merit with half webs on the other side. These turning barsmay be disposed in such angle that the half webs at the right hand side will be'turned under and alined with those on the left hand side,
, 1 f w i From the assembling mechanism the webs are led over a dragroll 21 to either or both of a pair of foldingforms 22 and 23. In Fig. 2, a bank of,
ten half webs are shown, each pair of these com- .ingfrom one'of the units A to E. Thus, the half webs from the unit-A are indicatedby the numeral 1 A and'A, those from theunit B, :bythe numerals B and 3*, etc. It will be observed that the half webs in the bank are disposed in spaced superposedrelation'to permit of introducing the multicolor webs therebetween, as desired, and as will be explained hereinafter. p
