Application December 24, 1930, Serial No. 504,469 2 Claims. (01. 128-284) This invention relates generally to sanitary holders and more particularly to holders for baby diapers.

One object is to provide simple, inexpensive waterproof holders for babies diapers.

Another object is to provide a construction which is water-tight but comfortable.

Another object is to provide a diaper holder that completely conceals the diaper from view but permits ready inspection.

Another object is to provide a holder that permits ready insertion and withdrawal of the diaper.

The holder comprises a waterproof curved trough-like main body portion for containing the absorbent diaper and having outwardly flaring elastic flanges'for fltting snugly around the legs and terminating in closed ends'which are preferably spread out laterally to form parts of the waist band.

Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a holder embodying one form of my invention spread out.

Fig. 2 is a transverse section of the same.

Fig. 3 is an outside view of one end of the holder with a modified form of strap fastener.

The main body portion 5 is in the form of a curved trough closed at its front and rear ends 6 and 7, respectively. This body portion has a fullness which provides suflicient depth to receive the absorbent pad or diaper 8. The body portion is preferably formed of elastic waterproof material such as rubber to prevent escape of moisture and permit the device to adapt itself to the shape of the body of the child. I

Formed integrally with the body portion 5 are flanged portions 9, which are formed by folding the material upon itself along the edges of terminate in outwardly flared portions 11 and 12,

respectively, said portions 11 and 12 extending laterally beyond the sides of said body portion.

The body portion 5 may be formed of two shaped parts connected together as at 13 and the ends pleated or gathered as at 14 as shown in Fig. 3.

The front and rear ends 6 and 7, respectively, of the body portion, when in position on the child stretch across the front and back of the child forming parts of the waist band. One end may be provided with straps 15 at the sides thereof and the straps may carry buckles 16 for engagernent with clasps 17 on the other end to hold the device on the child. Other forms of fastening devices may of course be used, such as rings 18' (Fig. 3).

Extended across the ends 6 and 7 and a short portion along the flanges 9 are strips of fabric 18 and 19, respectively. These strips may be stitched to the ends as illustrated or secured thereto by cement or glue or otherwise as desired. These strips form the ends of the trough and help to reinforce the waist band for bracing the back and body of the child and also afford a certain rigidity to the holder enabling it to retain its desired shape.

, In use the diaper 8 is held in its proper place in the trough by the inwardly turned portions or folds 29. The outwardly turned elastic flanges 9 engage the less snugly and are held tightly against the legs due to being stretched and by reason of the folds and diaper gently pressing thereagainst.

From the foregoing it will be seen that the improved device is waterproof, that the flanges and fabric ends aflord sufficient rigidity to the device to permit it to retain its trough-like shape, that no moisture can seep out from under the flanges and that the diaper or pad may be readily inserted and removed.

I claim:

1. A waterproof sanitary baby diaper holder comprising a body engaging portion provided with an elongated central opening, said body engaging portion includirig a trough-like pocket portion disposed beneath the said opening, legembracing flanges formed by the side edges of the body engaging portion, said body engaging portion terminating in laterally flaring ends, said flaring ends forming the principal parts of a waistband, and means carried by said ends for detachably fastening the respective corners of the holder together around the waist, said legembracing flanges and the side edges of the end portions substantially surrounding the legs below the hips, the trough-like pocket portion extending under the outer edges of said leg-surrounding flanges and under the flaring ends of'the having separately formed flared end pieces connected to the ends of the side flanges and constituting front and rear portions of a waistband, and means for securing the respective ends together around the waist, said leg-embracing portions and the side edges of said end pieces substantially surrounding the legs below the hips.
