The present invention relates to an improved cabinet construction, and has for its primary object the provision of an article of furniture provided with compartments or storage cabinets arranged to have referably positioned therein an ironer, was ing and drying instrumentalities and a movable seat, the table being so constructed and arranged as to occupy a minimum amount of floor space, and having the compartments arranged to permit convenient access there- A further object of the invention comprehends the provision of a utility table formed with hinged sections arranged to be moved angularly relative to each other, one ofthe sections being divided horizontally into compartments in which may be positioned an ironer-and a movable seat, and the other section divided by a vertical partition to receive washing and drying instrumentalities, the table being arranged so that when the sections are moved away from each other to permit convenient access to the ironer compartment.

Another object of the invention is to provide a combined table and cabinet structure with spaced longitudinal shelves, in one of which is positioned an ironer, and the other arranged to be closed by a seat which, when withdrawn, may conveniently be positioned relative to the ironer so as to be used by the operator.

Other obects and advantages will become apparent rom the following description when taken in conjunction with the accompanying claims.

Referring to the drawings, in which like numerals indicate like parts in the several news, and more particularl Figure 1, 10 designates a table cabinet w ich is formed by the sections 11 and 12 of substantially the same size and dimensions, and which are preferably hinged together at one end as at 13 (Fig. 2) and have their opposite ends provided with locking means 14 for maintaining the sections in their closed position.

The section 12 is preferably provided with spaced longitudinally disposed shelves 15 and 16, the upper shelf 15 formin a compartment in which may be mounte a portable ironer such as 17, while the space between the shelves 15 and 16 constitutes a lower compartment in which may be mounted a movable seat 18 revolubly mounted on a support 19 that extends from the lower shelf 16. These shelves, of course, may be utilized to accommodate various other articles.

The section 11 is preferably divided by the vertical partition 20 into the com artments 21 and 22 which are of such epth and width as to receive therein a washing machine 23 and a dish washer, drier or wringer 24, which articles constitute the washing and drying instrumentalities to be positioned within the compartments formed in the section 11. Each of the sections 11 and 12 have 0 ened top portions while the section 12 is a so provided with an opened inner side, which, when the table is moved to its closed position, is separated from the com artments 21 and 22 in the section"11 by t e side wall 25.

The top of the table is arranged to be closed by a removable cover or closure member 26 shown composed of a series of sections or leaves 28 that are hinged together, the end sections 29 being arranged to extend beyond the ends of the table, so that they may assume a vertical position such as shown by the right end section 29 of Figure 1 or may be employed to lengthen the table top by being move to a horizontal position such as shown by the left end section 29 in Figure 1. The sections 29 are supported in their horizontal position by the bracket arms 30 which are hinged as at 31 to swing transversely of the table and abut the side there-.

The sections of the cover 26 are rovided with dependin end flanges 32 whic fit over the adjacent e ges of the table when the latter is in its closed position so as to insure the cover 26 remaining in an immovable or fixed position. When not in use the brackets 30 may be swung inwardly to assume a osition substantially parallel with the adacent sides of the table.

It will be seen that the table 10 constitutes a pleasing and an attractive article of furniture WhlCh occupies a minimum amount of floor space and thus is admirably suited for use in apartments, houses, and the like, where only limited space is available.

In operation, the table cabinet 10 is arranged normally to assume its closed position as shown in Figure 1, so as to accommodate and conceal the washing instrumentalities and ironer, and also may be used as a storage cabinet for various other articles. When it is desired to have access to the washing and drying instrumentalities the top 26 may be completely removed or the section of the top coverin the compartments 21 and 22 may be fol ed over the adjacent section, in order to permit independent access to these compartments. When the clothes or other articles have been washed and dried and are ready for ironing, the ection 12 may be moved about its hinges 13 to assume an angular position relatlve to section 11 to permit access to the ironer 17. The housewife or operator may then proceed with the ironing of the clothes and may swing the seat 18 outwardly so as to sit down during this operation. The size and height of the table 10 and its associated parts are such as to be suitable for the various uses to which the instrumentalities carried by the table are to be employed.

The outer side or end panel of the section 11 may be hinged as at '11, to permit rolling or positioning of the washing and drying instrumentalities into and out of their respective compartments. While the washing machine 23 is shown as being of the spinner ty e, manifestly other t s may be used and t e section 11 may be divided into three compartments to accommodate the particular type of washer and drying instrumentalities employed. Likewise, different types of ironers may be mounted on the shelf 15 in the section 12.

Referring to the form of the invention illustrated in Figures 3 and 4, the table 33 is preferably formed intermediate its length with a partition 34 which forms the compartments 35 and 36. The compartment 35 is further subdivided by a transverse partition 37 into sub-compartments in which is respectively positioned washing and drying instrumentalites such as shown in the compartments formed in section 11 of the form previously described. The compartment 36 is provided with spaced horizontally disposed shelves 38, the upper shelf being preferably arran ed to act as a support for an ironer 39. he compartment 36 is formed with an opened side, the upper portion of which may be closed by a member 40 which is hinged at 41 to one side of the table, so that when moved by a handle 50 to its closed position, constitutesa side wall for the compartment in which the ironer 39 is mounted. A combined end closure member and seat 42 having legs 43 is arranged to fit within the space formed between the shelves 38 and coact with the member 40 to constitute one side of the table 33 when the parts are in their closed position and may be withdrawn from the table and utilized as a seat when it is desired to use the iron. The base of the seat 42 is preferably provided with recesses 44 of such length as to permit the hands of the o erator to fit therein so as to insert or with raw the seat from the table.

The table is preferably formed with an opened top arranged to be closed by a cover or lid 45 formed of the sections 46 which are hinged as at 47 and are provided with the depending flanges 48, which fit over the adjacent sides of the table so as to insure the cover remaining in a fixed position.

In the operation of this form of the invention, access may be had to the washing and drying instrumentalities by either removing the cover 45 from the table or folding the section 46 that extends over the compartment 35 over on the other section. When it is desired to use the iron 39 the cover may be folded so as to rest on the top of the compartment 35 and the side member 40 swung about its hinges 41 and the seat withdrawn from the table so as to assume the position as shown in Figure 3.

In Figure-5 the interior of the table 48 and the top 49 ma be substantially similar to that shown in igures 3 and 4, while the end panel 50' is formed with the sections 51 and 52, the upper section 51 being hinged,

the panels to swing outwardly from the sides of the table and allows the ironer, which is carried or stored within the table, to be pulled out so as to rest on the section 51 when the latter is moved to its horizontal position and supported by the brackets 54.

The shelves 15 and 38 may be slidably mounted in their respective sections so as to be readily removed to permit the space being used for the storage of other articles.

It is understood that the forms of the invention herewith shown and described are merely illusrative of preferred embodiments of the invention and-that such changes may be made as fall within the purview of one skilled in the art without departing from the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claims.

I claim:

1. A cabinet of the class described having in combination, sections provided with open top portions, means hingedly connecting the sections at one side to permit their movement into and out of closed position, locking means on the opposite sides of the sections to that of the hinged means for detachably connecting the sections in their closed position, one of said sections having a shelf extendin longitudinally thereof and provided with an open inner side to permit access to the shelf when the sections are moved relative to each other, the other of said sections having a closed inner wall and a vertically disposed partition dividing the same into spaced compartments, and a cover having sections hinged together adapted to close the openings in the tops ofthe sections, the end sections of the cover forming extensions for the cabinet, and means for maintaining the end sections in their horizontal position.

2. A cabinet of the class described having in combination sections provided with o 11 top portions, means hingedl connecting the sections at one end to permit their movement into and out of closed position, coacting locking means on the opposite ends of the sections for detaclmbly connecting the sections in their closed position, one of the sections having spaced longitudinally disposed shelves forming an upper ironing compartment and a lower seat compartment, said last mentioned section having an open inner side to permit access-to the ironer and the withdrawal of the seat when the sections are moved to an angular position relative to each other, the other of said sections having a closed inner wall and a vertically disposed partition dividing the same into spaced compartments for receiving washing and drying instrumentalities respectively, a cover having sections hinged together and arranged to completely close the top of the cabinet when the cabinet sections are in their closed position, said cover sections arranged to be folded to permit independent access to either of said cabinet sections.
