Description

Jan. 31, 1933.
F. F. CROSBY LICENSE HOLDER Filed April 20, 1932 I I l l l l l I l i l l Ll Inventor zrazz/zkf C'rqs? I V r 1 Fatented Jan, 33, i933 FRANK F. CROSBY, OF HUGHESVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA LICENSE HOLDER Application filed April 20,
This invention relates to a device for holding licenses, cards, tags and the like and more particularly for holding a hunters license card.
I am fully aware that numerous devices have been provided for holding a hunters license card upon the outside of the hunting coat or jacket, but such devices have been objectionable for the most part in that to place so the card in the holder, or remove it therefrom, the holder'must be wholly removed from the coat resulting in a loss of time and in great inconvenience to the huntsman. In accordance with the present invention a simple and inexpensive device for holding a license card is provided, the device being so provided as to be readily and easily secured in position on the coat or other garment and from which or into which the license card may be placed, and when in the holder clearly visible to an observer.
The invention together with its numerous objects and advantages will be best understood from a study of the following descrip- 2 tion, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing wherein:
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the holder.
Figure 2 is a rear elevational view thereof,
Figures 3 and 4 are sectional views taken substantially on the lines 33 and 4-4 respectively of Figure 1, and
F igure 5 is a perspective view of an attaching tab.
Referring in detail to the drawing it will be seen that my improved holder designated generally by the reference character 5 comprises a pocket 6 which in the present instance is preferably rectangular, and is 40 formed from a single piece of leather, or
other suitable material that is folded upon itself to provide a rear wall 7 and a front wall 8 united along their vertical or longitudinal edges by rows of stitching 9.
The front wall 8 is provided with an aper- 1932. Serial No. 606,460.
ture closed by a transparent plate 10 of glass, celluloid, or any other transparency, preferably, and as shown, celluloid, the same being stitched at its marginal edges to the front wall 8 by lines of stitching 11.
The front wall 8 and'rear wall 7 at the top of the pocket are mutually disconnected so that the license card may be inserted into the pocket from the top thereof and he ar ranged in the pocket as to be clearly visible through the transparency 10 suggested in Figure 1.
The front wall 8 above the open and top side of the pocket is extended longitudinally and the extended portion 12 of said front wall is preferably reduced in width intermediate its ends and increases in width as it proceeds toward relatively opposite ends thereof; the said extended portion 12 intermediate its ends being folded rearwardly upon itself with the parallel fold portions being stitched together as at 13, leaving the terminal portion of the extension 12 free and presenting a fia to overlap the rear wall 7 as shown in Figure 4 and thereby constitute a closure for the mouth or open top side of the pocket.
As is also clearly shown in Figure 4-, the uppermost row of stitching 13 is removed from the region of the fold to thereby accommodate and retain in the manner clearly shown in the drawing a suspending or attaching device 14 which in the present instance is in the nature of a safety pin.
From the foregoing description of the invention it will be seen that there is provided a card or tag holder of one-piece construction free of seams at the top and bottom thereof and which will effectively protect the card or tag and which will not only prevent loss or displacement of the card or tag but will at the same time permit of ready removal and replacement of the tab or license without requiring a removal of the holder from the coat or like garment.
In practice to secure the holder to the coat the pin 14 may be directly engaged with the coat in a manner thought apparent; however if the coat be of waterproof material the use of the pin will not be desirable because the use of such will result necessarily in a perforation of the coat and to this end there may beused an attaching tab 15 of leather or other suitable flexible material and provided adjacent one edge thereof with a folded over portion stitched as at 16. The stitched folded over portion provides a loop for the reception of the penetrating prong 14 of the pin 14 whereby the tab 15 is suitably connected with the pin. The tab 15 is preferably directly stitched to the coat as suggested in Figure 1 wherein a portion of the coat is shown and designated by the reference character 17, and the stitching securing the tab 15 to the coat is designated by the reference character 18.
Even though I have herein shown and described the preferred embodiment of the invention, it is to be understood that I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of construction, combination and arrangement of elements herein shown, but claim all such forms of the invention to which I am entitled in view of the requirements of the art and the scope of the appended claims.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
1. A holder of the character described, comprising a normally flat pocket open at one side, and formed with a rear wall and a front wall. the latter having an aperture and a transparent plate secured to said front wall and closing said aperture; said front wall having a portion extending beyond the open side of the pocket and folded rearwardly upon itself to provide two parallel portions stitched together remote from the free end of the extended portion of said front wall thereby presenting a flap arranged to overlap the rear wall and close the open side of the pocket.
2. A holder of the character described, comprising a normally flat pocket open at one side, and formed with a rear wall and a front wall, the latter having an aperture and a transparent plate secured to said front wall and closing said aperture; said front wall having a portion extending beyond the open side of the pocket and folded rearwardly upon itself to provide two parallel portions stitched together remote from the free end of the extended portion of said front wall thereby presenting a flap arranged to overlap the rear wall and close the open side of the pocket, and an attaching element for the pocket having a part thereof extending between said parallel portions in the region of the fold.
3. A holder of the character describe (l comprising a normally fiat flexible pocket for carrying indicating matter, and having front and rear walls formed from a single piece and adjacent one end being mutually unattached, whereby the pocket is provided with a mouth at one side thereof; and the front wall at said one end being extended beyond said mouth and folded rearwardly to close said mouth and overlap the free end of the rear wall, and stitching removed from the overlapping portion of said extended end securing said end in folded position.
In testimony whereof l aiiix my signature.
FRANK F. CROSBY.
