Description
' c. R. PATTERSON.
PRESSURE DjsvrdEs FOR PLANING AND MOLDING MACHINES.
' 'ljatented. March 13, 1877.
No.188,Z59.
v w 2 \W? UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CHESTER R. PATTERSON, OF PITTSTON, PENNSYLVANIA.
IMPROVEMENT IN PRESSURE :DEVICES FORPLANING AND MOLDING MACHINES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 188,259, dated March 13, 1877; application filed February 21, 1877.
To all whom t't may concern Be it known that I, CHESTER R. PATTER- SON, of Pittston, in the county of Luzerne and State of Pennsylvania, have invented an Improvement in Pressure Devices for Planing and Molding Machines, which improvement is fully set forth in the following specification and accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal vertical section. Fig. 2 is'a top view of a portion of the machine. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of one of the blocks and shoes detached from the machine. Fig. 4 is a top view of the shoe detached from the block. Fig. 5 is a cross-section of one of the blocks and shoes.
The object of my invention is to hold the lumber firm, and enable the operator to adjust the machine to knives .of different lengths, and to the edges of crooked knives, and it is an improvement on the patent granted to me April 25, 1876, No. 176,479.
In the drawings, A is the cutter-head. B B are the pressure-blocks. U G are the adjustable shoes. D is the arm or guide, to which the blocks are hung. a. a are anti-friction rollers, which enable the blocks to be moved withease. b is a spring on each block, giving it the required pressure. E is a hinged guard. c is a bolt in the back of the pressureblock, running through the back part of the shoe D, and provided with nut d, by means of which the shoe is moved backward and forward to accommodate the shape of the cutters.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Pa'tent, is-
A pressure device for planing and molding machines, composed of a series of independent pressure-blocks provided with longitudinally-adjustable shoes, constructed to operate in the manner shown and described, and for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 21st day of February, 1877.
CHESTER R. PATTERSON.
