IMPROVEMENT IN ADVERTISING-CARDS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 186,209, dated January 16, 1877; application filed October 27, 1876.
To an whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HENRY MAHLER, of Raleigh, in the State of North Carolina, have invented a new and Improved Business-Card and Ring-Gage Combined, of which the following is a-specification:
The nature of my invention consists in a business card provided with a number of holes corresponding with the usual sizes of finger-rings, whereby the size of that part of the finger upon which the ring is to be placed can easily be measured, and the finger-ring ordered even from a distant part of the country.
In the accompanying drawing, A represents a business-card, on which the name, business, address, and any other information desired to be given are printed, in the usual manner. B B are spaces arranged in any part of the card, between the writing or printing, out of which holes are punched of a size corresponding with the inside diameter of the finger-rings.
These spaces may be numbered or lettered to facilitate the description of the same, or of the size of the ring.

It will readily be understood that gages for other articles, such as wire, pins, or bolts, and other small articles of hardware, may be made, and punched into those spaces B, to correspond either with the inner or outer shape and dimensions of the articles, whereby the ordering of any particular size of those articles is much facilitated.
What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
A business-card having a series of holes punched out of the body of said card, substantially in the manner and for the purpose herein described.
