not only simple and inexpensive in construe-- tion and durable, and efficient in operatlon,
but which handles the eggs and the like without danger of breaking the same, even though 15 they may be located in far corners either above or below the roost.
These and other objects of the invention, its
nature, and its composition and arrangement and combination of parts will be readily understood by anyone acquainted with the art to which this invention relates upon reading the following descriptions of the drawings, in which: l I V Figure '1 is a general side elevational view 25 of the device of my invention. I
Figure 2 is an elevational view taken from the left of Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a view similar to Figurel, show ing the closed position of the claws or fork;
Figure 4 is a horizontal sectional view looking downwardly approximately on the line H of Figure 1."
' Referring in detail to the drawings, a preferred embodiment of the invention consists 35 of a wooden handle 5 in the end of'which is fixed a metallic rod 6 whichis bifurcated on its upper end and provided with a pin 7 horizontally between thebifurcations 8. Vertically swingable upon the pin 7 is .a threetalon fork or claw generally designated 9 which is constructed by twisting the legs of a U-shaped bar or wire so as to provide the twisted shank 10 having the loop 11 at its back portion. The legs of the wire or bar member are angularly and laterally directed as indicated at 12 above which positions they are forwardly and curvedly bent to provide the talons 13. The twisted shank is slightly pulled apart at 14 to'receive the pin 7 and there is provided at the apex of the talons a curvature centrally thereof as seen in the 'cally disposed loop 21"an d a horizontally'disloop 15 to receive a cable lfi', the function of which will bedescribed: some distance below the bifurcated portion and "the ,pin 7 there is Y I:
provided a fork17'of the shape'seen in detail in Figure 41 which is seamed as he have its at 'bight' portion 18 wrappedabout the barb and to have axially bent portions'19 which are then directed in a parallel mannerto as-c sume a generallyhorizontal" position with a drawings; The fork 11'7'is' so positioned that it properly cooperates with the talons" 'of' the 'swingablefork 9, Belowtheforkl7 thereis ,a h-g' formation 20 which providesa vertiposedi loop 22, onopposite'sid'esiof therod 6. 1
Through the horizontally disposed loop 22, passes the-cable 16. To the vertically' dis posed loops 21 there is fastened the lowerencl of a coiled spring 23 which at its, upper end engages as at 24 in the loop" 11 of the twisted portion of the fork 9. The spring 23 nor V mally retains the fork 9 out of the sphere i of action of the fork 17 as seen in Figure 2. The lower end of the cable 16 is connected to a loop or eye 25 on a triangular-trigger formed of wire or bars and provided with a looped hand-engaging portion 26. One angle' of the triangular trigger 27 is formed n with an eye 28 to be mounted pivotally upon a pin 29 secured to the side of the handle 5. By this arrangement, movement of the loop portion 26 of the trigger 27 will .cause I the downward movement of the cable 16'and z consequently-the movement of the fork 9 in the directioniof the fork 17 whereby an object within the sphere of action of the forks will be firmlygrasped as seen at 30, wherein n theobject is an egg. It is a very simple matter to withdraw the device and to safely re move and retrieve the egg from an inaccessible part of a coop or roost.
It is to be definitely understood that it is not desiredto limit the application ofv this invention tothe particular modification setf out herein to illustrate the principles thereof, and any change or changesmay be made: in structure and arrangement of parts consistent with the spirit and scope of the invention. Y r
What is claimed is: v
1. An egg-retriever or the like of thetype described comprising a rod having a handle at one end and a bifurcation at the other end provided with a cross pin, a spring opened claw swingable on the pin, a stationary claw on the rodfor cooperation with swingable claw, and flexible cable means to swing the swingable claw.
7 10 2. Anegg-retriever or the like of the type described comprisinga rodiha'ving a 'handle": atone end and a bifurcation at the other end provided with a cross pin, a spring opened claw swingable on the pin, a stationary claw 15 on the rod for cooperation with 'swi t claw; and means to swing the'swingable claw, 1 7 said means comprising a trigger lever pivnoted on the handle flexible cable se- Zcured to the lever and the swingablejaw, the
29 connections of the cablewith the trigger le iver and swingable claw being on J the same I 7 s de of their-o d.
An egg-retriever orthe like of the type described comprising a rod having a handle 2 atone end and: a fbifiircation at the other 7 v I end provided with a cross pin, a'spring-open- .ed claw swingablefon the pin, .a stationary claw .onthe rod for cooperation .withswingn ablegclaw and means to swing the swingable V I i i claw, sald means comprislng a trigger lever l j M pivoted L on the handle and a cable secured to the lever and the swingable jaw said claws being of twisted wire construction providing M longitudinally bowed talons.;- c r R Q-In testimony whereof I aifix my signature.
