By 2mm A I [omey Patented Feb. 16, 1932 UNITED STATES DAVID MASAKI KIYUIA, OF HONOLULU, TERRITUIlTtY OF HAWAII BOTTLE CAP Application filed October 11,, 1930. Serial No, tlldltll).
ris invention relates to bottle caps and cularly crown caper ohject of the invention is to provide a o he frictionally held on the neck of a and which can he removed therefrom sing a tah on the llang'e of the cap. urther objects of the invention are to l a cap of the character referred to no to cos an air tight closure for a hottle simply removed Without the reot a hottle opener, that permits production as reduced costs, and .tively ineirpensive to manufacture. the foregoing and other objects in invention consists of a novel conion, coinhinationand arrangement of will he hereinatter more specifically lord and illustrated in the accompanying-s wherein disclosed an embodithe invention, hut it is to he underthat changes variations and modificarnay he resorted to without departing i the spirit of the claim hereto appended.
the drawings wherein like reference .-tcrs denote corresponding parts rig-hoot the several views ure rdance with the present invention.
is a fragmentary side elevation of a he hottle carrying the cap in do vertical section applied thereto. 3 is an enlarged fragmentary portion i e cap showing the tab heing opened, and, l is a fragmentary side elevation of the cap showing the tah extended.
ln the drawings wherein for the purpose of lustration is shown the preferred em hodnnent of my invention, 5 indicates generally the body portion of the cap which conof a relatively flat round crown 6 from which depends an annular flange 7 formed with n series of crirnps 8 around the lower edge of the flange '3' These crimps 8 frictionclly engage a semicircular, recess 9 at the upper end of the neck ll) of a bottle.
it is a top plan view of the cap in On the diametrically opposite side of the crown 6 there are slots 11 in alineinent with each other and these slots are located in the margins of the crown. The slots extend downwardly through the flange and the crimps 8 and terminate on a line with the lower edge of the crimps 8. @n the diametrically opposite sides of the flange 'i there are a pair of tabs 12, which when the tah is inserted on the neclr of the bottle, are hent to the osition shown in 2 of the drawings. llhere the tahs 1?; merge, with the crimps 8 on the flange if, there a line of per forations or scorings 13 that intersects the lower edge of the slots 11 at right angles. The slot ll is in the center of the line of perforation l3.
llhus it will he seen that when it is desired to open the bottle, the capslQl are pulled outwardly from the position shown in 9 which will bend the tab across the line of perforation. Further movement from the position shown in Fig. 3 0f the drawings will cause the break along the line of perforation and allow the parts of the tabs on the opposite sides of the slots 11 to spread apart whereupon the cap can he removed.
On the inside of the crown 6 of the hody portion is a. disk of cork 14 that bears against the upper edge of the neck 10 of the loottle to make an airtight closure therefor.
It is thought that the present embodiment of the invention has been disclosed in considerahle detail merely for the purpose of exern plification, since in actual practice it attains the features of invention enumerated as do sirable and inthe statement of the invention and the above description.-
'It is to he understood that by descrihing in detail herein any particular form, struc ture or arrangement it is not intended to limit the invention heyond the terms of the claim or the requirement of the prior art.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is zw A crown bottle cap comprising a crimped flan e and a substantially concavo-convex 5 ben able tongue formed integrally with the free end of the flan e, said ton ue being of less length than the ange and ing normally bent thereagainst and nested in one of the crimps thereof, the tongue being weakened transversel at its point of juncture with the flange, sai flange having a slit therein ex-' tending from the body portion of the cap to the point of juncture of the flange and the tongue. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
