rIhis invention relates to mattress boxes or devices used in the manufacture of cotton mattresses.
An object of the present invention is to provide a device of the character indicated of an ilnroved and simplified structure, by
means o which st irrers or distributors or other mechanical devices heretofore considered essential in these devices are eliminated,l while at the same time the cotton lint is distributed in an improved manner with an increased bulk centrally of the mattress, thus producing superior mattresses and with less expense. A

Referring to the drawings 1 illustrates the base of the mattress box which may be conveniently mounted on wheels 2 to permit rolling of the box toward and away from a mattress press 20. On base l is positioned a substantially rectangular frame 3 adapted to l secure the lower edges of side walls panels 4.
Each of the 4wall panels 4 is provided, adjacent its lower edge, with longitudinally extending vent yslots 5, which are preferably covered with a netting 6.
One of the side walls is provided with a downward inclined port, in which is enclosed a nozzle 7 adapted to. be connected 5 as by a exible tube 8 with a lint blower 9.

The box top 1 involves the substance of the present invention as is here illustrated, is formed with a rectangular frame 10 adapted to engage the upper edges of wall panels 4 and is further provided with inclined top panels 11- which together constitute a dome shaped roof for the box. The panels 11 may conveniently terminate in a ridge pole 12 which may be provided with a lifting ring 13 for use in applying and removing the top from the box. Fastening members 21 areprovided for securing sidepanels 4 in position.
On one side of the dome shaped top is a vent port 17 preferably covered with a screen netting 18. This top vent port in operation is positioned opposite the inlet port 7.
In operation cross stringers 15 are placed upon base 1 within the box and upon these stringers are positioned longitudinal boards 16, forming a false bottom or floor. Blower 9 is then started, forcing a stream of lint ladened air through tube 8 and inlet nozzle 7 which stream by reason of the angular position of nozzle 7 is directed against the inner faces of the dome shaped top walls 11. V'15 The direction of the lint stream is indicat ed by arrows in Fig. 1.
By reason of this dome shaped top the lint is automatically distributed over the false bottom planks 6 and forms in a substantially even pile onsaid bottom, which pile by reason of the dome shaped top, is slightl deeper in the center than at the sides.
fter sufficient lint has been blown into the box and settled therein the lint blower is stopped and after the lint in the box has settled the dome top is removed and the box rolled under mattress press 20. Top boards 16,.similar in all respects with bottom boards 16 are then placedl over the lint pile in the box and cross stringers 15 corresponding to the bottom. cross stringers 15 are positioned and the press 20 is lowered against these top stringers and the entire pile of lint within the box is compressed to the desired thickness. The fastening members 21 are then released and side panels 4 removed. U shaped clasps 19 are then applied over the ends of cross stringers 15 as illustrated in Fig. 3 and the compressed mattress filler is removed 100 :from the box base and a ticking 21 is slip d on over the lanks 16, the cross stringers ing release after the Vticking reaches them and after the ticking has been drawn over the entire filler the top and bottom boards 16 are withdrawn from the ticking.
Various modifications in the precise form and arrangement of the parts will readily sug est themselves to those skilled in the art ut within the scope of the present invention as claimed.
Having thus fully described my invention I claim:
1. A mattress box having a roof symmetrically inclined from all sides, means for blowing lint into the box in a stream, directed against the underside of the roof.
2: The structure of claim 1 with a vent in the roof on the side opposite that on which the lint enters.
3. The structure of claim 1 with a vent in the roof`on the side opposite that on which the lint enters and vents in the. sides of the box adjacent the bottom.
.4. A mattress box comprising a base, four removable walls each having a vent slot extending adjacent its bottom, means for holding the walls in assembled relationship on the base, a pyramidal top adapted to removably seat on the walls, a vent in one side of the top, an inlet port adjacent the top of one wall, arranged to direct a stream of lint ladened air entering therethrough against the inner face of the top substantially as specified.
