This invention relates generally to toys and has for an important object toprovide, in a manner as hereinafter set forth, a toy which is in the nature of a mold formed of a plurality of hingedly connected wall sections having incisions in the faces or sides thereof of various designs whereby a child or other person will be enabled to produce representations of houses or the like in material such to as wet sand, mud, snow, etc.
Other objects of the invention are to provide a toy of the aforementioned character which will be simple in construction, strong, durable, and which may be manufactured at 35 low cost.
All of the foregoing and still further objects and advantages of the invention may become apparent from a study of the following specification, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings wherein like characters of reference designate corresponding parts throughout the several, views, and wherein Figure 1 is a view in vertical section.
through a toy constructed in acccordance with this invention.
Figure 2 is a View in top plan thereof.
Figure 3 is a view in front elevation of the to Figure 4 is a detail View in horizontal cross section through one of the wall sections.
Figure 5 is a fragmentary detail View in top plan showing the coacting eyes for detachably connecting the free ends of the end sections together.
Figure 6 is a fragmentary detail view of the pin for detachably connecting the end sections together.
Referring to the drawings in detail, it will be seen that the toy constituting this invention comprises a pair of end sections 1 and 2 and the intermediate sections 3 and 4. Hinges 5 connect the section 1 to the section 4, the section2 to the section 3 and said section 3 to the section 4. The hinged vertical edges of each of the sections are beveled as indicated at 6 to permit swinging movement of the sections through an arc of 180 degrees relative to each other.
The free vertical edges of the sections 1 and are adapted for the passage of a locking pm I 9 having a head 10 on its upper end.
The opposite sides of each of the sections are provided with incisions 11 which are formed to represent doors and windows of various types of buildings and said incisions may be of any desired configuration. As will be apparent, the hinged connections between the sections will permit said sections to be. reversed in a manner to dispose either of the sides thereof inwardly.
In use, the end sections 1 and'2 are connected by the pin 9 in the manner illustrated in the drawings to provide a polygonal enclosure which is open at its upper and lower ends. Vet sand, mud, snow or the like is then packed in the enclosure and fills the incisions 11 therein after which the pin 9 is removed to permit the sections to be removed from the body or block which has been'thus formed. The vertical sides of the body or block will have thereon representations of the doors and windows ina house or other building, depending on the configuration of the incisions, as will be understood. 1
It will thus be seen that a toy is provided through the medimn of which consideration amusement and education may be had by a child or other person. The sections may be formed of any suitable material and may also be of any desired dimensions.
It is believed that the many advantages of a toy constructed in accordance with this invention will be readily understood, and although the preferred embodiment of the invention is as illustrated and described, it is to be understood that changes in details of construction may be had which will fall within the scope of the invention as claimed.
lVhat is claimed is:
1. A toy mold comprising a plurality of sections of material thickness, hinge means pivotally connecting said sections together for swinging movement in a manner to-invert the mold and to provide a substantially closed joint between the sections when in either operative position, said sections having indentations in their opposite sides of a depth less than the thickness of the sections for forming 5 ornamentations on the product of the mold when said mold is in either operative position.
2. A toy mold comprising a pair of hingedly connected intermediate sections, a pair of end sections hingedly connected to the intermediate sections, said sections being swingable relative to each other through an arc of 180 degrees for inverting the mold, said sections being of material thickness and having indentations in their opposite sides of a depth less than the thickness of the sections, the vertical edges of the intermediate sections and the adjacent edges of the end sections being beveled, eye bolts projecting from the free vertical edges of the end sections for vertical alignment with each other when the mold is in either operative position, and means insertable through the eyes for securing the mold in either operative position. In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WOODWARD BRYANT LE GANGER.
