' U NITED STATES PATENT OEEIoE.
JAMES A. PRICE, OF HOUSTON, TEXAS.
IMPROVEMENT IN PLOW-STOCKS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 181,102, dated August 15, 1876 application filed July 11, 1876.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES A. PRICE, of Houston, in the county of Harris and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Plow-Stock, of which the following is a specification:
Figure 1 is a side view of my improved plowstock, showing a plow arranged in place. Fig. 2 is a top view of the same.
Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
The object of this invention is to furnish an improved plow-stock which shall be so constructed that any kind of a plow and standard may be applied to it, according to the kind of plowing to be done, and which shall be simple in construction, light, strong, and durable, and
convenient in use.
the beam, the straps, and the standa d, to receive the detachable standard D. E are the handles, the forward ends of which are attached to the sides of the beam A. The upper parts of the handles E are attached to the ends of a round, F, the middle part of which passes through, and is secured to, the upper end of the stationarystandard 0. To the opposite sides of the lower end of the stationary standard 0 are attached the lower ends of two brace-rods, G, the upper ends of which are attached to the opposite sides of the beam A. The braces G thus hold the standard (J against the draft-strain, and at the same time serve as guards to keep the lower part of the detachable standard D in place, and prevent it from having lateral movement. H is a U- shaped strap, the ends of which are attached to the opposite sides ot the stationary standard O, a little above the straps B. The loop of the strap H is made of such a size that the detachable standard D can pass through it readily. I is a setscrew, which passes in through a screw-hole in the bevel of the strap H, and bears against the forward side of the detachable standard D. By this construction, by loosening the screw I, the standard D can he slipped up and down to adjust it to work shallower or deeper in the ground, as may be desired. The forward side of the standard D is faced with a metal strap, J, to prevent it from being worn by the screw 1. To the lower end of the detachable standard D is attached the plow K. Each plow is designed to be attached to its own standard, so that any p'low and its standard can be applied to the stock, according to the kind of plowing to be done.
Having thus described my invention, Iclaim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patcut- The combination of the two straps B, the two braces G, the U-strap H, and its setscrew I with the beam A and the stationary standard O, to receive and hold the detachable standard D, to which the plow is attached, substantially as herein shown and described.
JAMES ALVIN PRICE.
