Description

Aug. 6, 1929. w. F. GIESLER WALL CONSTRUCTION Filed Aug. 10, 1927 Azizerfii'esiel l ATTOR N EY Patented Aug. 6, i929.
UNi-l'l ll" HALTER F. GIESLEH, OF TULSA, QKLAH OlKA.
WALL coivsrnocrron.
Application filed. August 10,132.
This invention relates to building construction, and its general object is to provlde a wall or lOllIlClZttlOll composed of Chile mond or wedge shaped blocks formed from concrete or other suitable material, containing one or more grooves to receive reinforcing wire rods or other metallic binding elements wellas cement, mortar and the like, for securing the blocks in interlocked wall formation.
A further object of the invention is to provide blocks formed from concrete or other material, and shaped. in a manner whereby they are not only interlocked when associated in wall formation, but due to their novel shape can be laid in an easy and expeditious manner and so as to eliminate as much as possible a continuous vertical joint, thereby adding strength and adhesion to the blocks as well as to provide a weather proof wall.
Another object of the invention is to provide a substantially wedge shape block that is formed with grooves to receive binding material and the like.
This invention also consists in certain other features of construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, to be hereinafter fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawings and specifically pointed out in the appended claim.
In describing my invention in detail, reference will be had to the accompanying drawings wherein like characters denote like or corresponding parts throughout the sev eral views, and in which:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary perspective view of a wall constructed with the blocks forming the subject matter of the present invention.
Figure 2 is a front View of one of the blocks.
Figure 3 is a top plan View thereof.
Figure a is a top plan view of a corner of the wall and showing the association of a top block with a corner block.
Figure 5 is a side view of an end block.
Figure 6 is a perspective View of a slightly modified form of corner block.
Figure 7 is a similar view of an intermediate block constructed in accordance with the modified form.
Referring to the drawings in detail and particularly to the block as shown in Figure Serial No. 212,089.
2, it will be noted that this block is oneof the intermediate blocks forming the wall as shown in Figure l, and includes a body 1 having converging walls 2 arrangi-sd in a manner to provide the substantially diamond shape formation as shown, but the outer ends of the walls 2 terminate in truncated ends liy this construction, it will be obvious that when these intermediate blocks are arranged in wall formation the converging walls of the respective blocks as well the truncated ends are arranged in contacting e11- gagement, with the result the blocks are in tel-locked with each other as will be appare The corner blocks are each provided with right angle disposed portions at from which extend a wedge shape portion 5 having a truncated end (3 adapted to be associated with the truncated ends of the blocks as shown in Figure 2, while the wedge shaped portions cooperate with the converging walls of these last mentioned blocks.
The top blocks for the wall as shown in Figure 1 are provided with a fiat upper surface 7 and converging Walls 8 forming the bottom surface which are adapted to be arranged in contacting engagement with the converging walls of the intermediate blocks and the wedge shaped portions of the corner blocks, while the ends of the top blocks and ends of the intermediate blocks engage shoulders 9 formed on the corner blocks in theconstruction of a wall.
The end blocks are practically the same as the corner blocks but of course are provided with only one converging portion which is indicated by the reference numeral 10 while the opposite side of the end blocks is straight as at 11 as will be apparent.
All of the blocks in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive are provided with longitudinally disposed parallel arranged grooves 12 which are adapted to receive binding material such as cement and the like, or if desired tie rods not shown may be arranged in these grooves 12 and used in combination with cement binder.
In Figures 6 and 7 I have illustrated a slightly modified form of corner block and intermediate block respectively, and in this form it will be noted that each of these blocks which are indicated by the reference numerals 13 and 14 is providedwith a single binder receiving groove 15. The blocks of the modified form are in other respects similar to the blocks as shown in Figures 1 to 5 inclusive.
From the above description and disclosure of the drawings, it will be obvious that blocks constructed in accordance with my invention can be associated in wall formation without the use of forms, in an easy and expeditious manner, and are held together in interlocked formation thereby eliminating as much as possible vertical joints, so as to provide a substantial, strong and sturdy Wall'formed with or without the use of tie rods, wires or other like metallic reinforcing and binding elements.
It is thought from the foregoing description that the advantages and novel features of my invention will be readily apparent.
I desireit tobe understood that I may make changes in the construction and in the combination and arrangement of the several parts, provided that such changes fall within the scope of the appended claim.
What I claim is:
In a wall construction, a corner block, grooved right angle disposed portions included in said corner block, grooved wedge shaped portions extending from the right angle disposed portions and being provided with truncated ends, said wedge shaped portions being formed with the right angled portions in a manner to provide shoulders at the juncture of the respective portions and said shoulders together with the truncated ends and wedge shaped portions being adapted to cooperate with other blocks to form the wall construction.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
WALTER F. GIE SLER.
