FINGER SCISSOES.
Application filed July 14,
This invention relates to improvements in the cut cry art and which embodies among other characteristics the cutter member adapted to be worn upon a finger.
Another object of the invention comprehends a Scabbard for the cutting element, whereby the device may be conveniently carried within a pocket.
An additional object of the invention contemplates the particular disposition and shape of the cutting edges of the article of cutlery whereby articles to he severed will be guided therebetween rather than forced away when the invention is called into use.
More specifically stated the cutting element is provided with a finger engaging portion to impart the necessary movement thereto.
l/Vith the above and other objects in view, the invention further consists of the following novel features and details of construction, to be hereinafter more fully described, illustrated in the accompanying drawing and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a side elevation of the invention as applied and in use.
Figure 2 is an elevation of the invention per so, taken from the reverse side thereof from the position shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a top plan view of the invention.
Referring to the drawing in detail, wherein like characters of reference denote corresponding parts, the reference character indicates a supporting plate having spaced slotted portions 11 through which an adjustable band 12 is passed and within which is inserted the index or other finger. The fixed end of the band is provided with channel portions 12 upon the side edges thereof to accommodate and prevent distortion of the free end thereof. 7
A plate 13, carried upon the outer side of the supporting plate 10 and spaced therefrom by blocks 1 1, is adapted to provide a sheath or scabbard for a cutter member, which will be presently described.
The c utter member, as mentioned in the p 1928. Serial No. 292,617.
foregoing, and as indicated at 15, is provided with a curved cutting surface 16, adapted for cooperation with a correspondingly disposed cutting edge 17 upon an adjacent portionof the supporting plate 10. Said cutter member is pivotally mounted, as indicated at 19, between the supporting plate 10, and the scabbard or sheath plate 18.
An car 20, extended from the innermost end of the cutter member 15 between the supporting plate 10 and scabbard plate 13, is adapted to abut the adjacent block 14 to restrict the entrance of the edge 16 thereof between said plates whereby contacting engagement of said edge with the lowermost of the blocks will be prevented and injury thereto obviated. A finger engaging plate 21 is carried upon the innerside of the cutter member 15 and which is adapted to accommodate the end of the index or other finger carried within the band 12. Movement of the index or other finger in opposite directions will cause the blade or cutting element 15 to be moved toward and away from the edge 17.
The invention is susceptible of various changes in its form, proportions and minor details of construction, and the right is herein reserved to make such changes as properly fall within the scope of the appended claim.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is An article of cutlery comprising a supporting plate. attaching means therefor, a cutting element having'pivotal connection with the supporting plate, the supporting plate and cutting element being provided with cutting surfaces upon the adjacent portions thereof, a plate carried by and spaced from the supporting plate to provide a Scabbard for the cutting element, a block interposed between the supporting plate and plate, and an ear carried upon that portion of the cutting element within the Scabbard and engageable with said block to restrict entrance of the cutting element therein.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
JAMES E. PHELPS.
