Description

A. HOPKINS Conn HOLDER Jul 2, 1929.
Filed Sept. 4, 1926 WITNESSES Z4: 7
Patented July 2, 1929.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
ALFRED HOPKINS, OF BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR TO HOPKINS-TOLL MA- CHINERY 60., OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA, A CORPORATION OF PENN- SYLVANLA.
CORD HOLDER.
Application filed September 4, 1926.
My invention relates to a device to be attached to an electric flatiron and aims to hold the cord in a manner to prevent inconvenience in the use of the iron.
The object of my invention is to provide a practical device for the indicated purpose, to effectively hold the cord and which embodies a simple form.
Reference is to be had to the accompany ing drawings forming a part of this specification, it being understood that the drawings are merely illustrative of one example of the invention.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a cord holder embodying my device, showing the same in association with an electric flatiron.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the cord holder, the end portion thereof being in section.
Figure 3 is a section on the line 3-3 of Figure 2.
My improved device is made preferably in the form of a plate 10 having a lower end directed laterally, said lower end having a hole 11 for the screw C, which attaches handle a of the flatiron A. The upper part of the cord holding element 10 is returned on itself to form a clamp plate, the clamp being completed by transverse screw 13 to firmly clamp cord B in a looped form. With the cord in loop form as shown, it is held in such a manner as not to become entangled with the work being ironed or ad- Serial No. 133,644.
jacent objects and promotes greater convenience in the use of the flatiron A. The lower end of element 10, in which fastening screw C is passed, is formed on each side of the holes 11 with protuberances 14 on the under side to engage the surface of the flatiron A and contribute to the secure holding of the element 10 against displacement.
The members of the clamp 12 are provided in practice with a cover 15 of insulating material.
I would state furthermore that while the illustrated example constitutes a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the exact details herein il lustrated, since, manifestly, the same can be considerably varied without departure from the spirit of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
What I claim is:
A cord holding attachment for fiatirons, consisting of an element having a laterally deflected lower end formed with a screw hole to receive one of the screws which fastens the flatiron handle for holding the attachment in position, protuberances on the under side of said element at each side of said 00 hole, the upper end of said element being returned on itself to constitute cord clamping members, and a screw passed through the clamping members to complete the clamp.
ALFRED 'HOPKINS.
