' This invention relates to improvements in food, display racks, particularly in a supporting device adapted to display bananas or other suitable fruits and foods. I w ,Anobject of this invention is to provide'a display rack of. a foldable type and made in sections so that it can beutilized either as disclosing the food as a window display or on the sidewalk or in any open place.
It has been found in the care and'sale of fruits, bananas particularly, that. when placed on the ordinary supports in a window found in the following detailed'description infoldable condition.
of the device, and as disclosed in the single sheet of drawings which is herewith made a j part of this application.
In the drawings, r Figure 1 illustrates a perspective View of the food display rack.
Figure 2 represents a perspective View of the upper portion of the food display rack,
Figure 3 illustrates a perspective view of "the base portion of the display rack, disclosing the portionin foldable condition. Numerals 1, 2 and 3 designate the frame work of, the upper portion of the display rack which may be made of any suitabl e'ma terial such as rods bent into proper shape for the purpose, the upper'ends of the rods 1, 2 and 3 being adapted to extend through suitable openings in a plate 4; and fastened theretoby means of bolts 5 and 6 or otherand Met the yoke member 9 being allowed wise. Extending downward from the plate 4 is a hook or other supporting means .7 adapted for the purpose of carrying a food display,
such as bananas 8 as disclosed inFigure 1, it a being understood that the food display rack in this invention may be utilized in connection with any suitable display. The lower ends'of the rods 1, 2 and 3 are adapted to be attached to'yoke pieces 9 and 10 in any'suits able manner as by means of lock nuts 11, 12
.and' 13, two of the rods being connected to one of the yoke members,'such as 10, while one of the rods is connected to the other yoke member 9 at one end thereof, the other t ng free and'of suitable shapeffor se? as a handle.
' Theffood 1 display rack, according to "this invention, is preferably made of two main portions, the upper portion having been described'in substance as above, and both portions being of a foldabletype. Thelower portion comprises two main elements 15' and 16 made from any suitable material such as e5 wrought iron and bent into the formof asap-1 p rting stand for the iipper. portion ofthe display rack, the stand having leg portions 17, 18,19 and 20 adapted tobe suitably braced by means of cross rods 21 and 22 attached near the lower ends thereof. The elements 1'5 and 16 are pivotally and foldably joined' at23 by means of a lock 'nut and shank" portion Qatand a thumb screw25 for-the purpose of placing tension between the two elemerits; The lock nutand shankelements 24 are adapted to extend upward a sufiicient distance to receive the coactingveleme'nt 26 in the upper portion of the food display rack in pivotal relationshipthereto. The washer or look nut element 26, being located at the pivo'ting'point between the yoke members 9 and 10, and as the shank member 241:
extends' throughthe elements 9, 10 and 26,
it is adapted'to receive athumb screw or other suitable'element 27, ther-eby providing a device which will function through the means'of thumb screws 25 and 27 toproduce U the desired tensionbetween thej upper and lower units of the display rack, thereby allowing the upper portion to revolve as may bedesiredp' r For convenience, a plateshelf 28 is prefer; ably located at the lower end of theiupper unit of the display rack ldirectlyabove the yoke elements 9 andlO, and supported thereby, it being held in rigid relationship tothe remaining portions of the rack by means of the thumb screw 27 and shank portion 24,
which is adapted to pass through a suitable opening'inthe plate 28." I
In operation, this invention provides a food display rack, particularly adaptable the display of bananas,,and functions to allow the fruit to be shown to advantage in a window where they might be subjected to a cold and heat, The rack, together. with the food display, can be easily changed in location withoutinconve'nience, The stand being built in two main units makes it possible to use the, rack for various pur oses, such as window andsidewalk displays, t a e window n, i i I struction and-the ease with which the various display requiring merely the upper-half of the devicein many instances, while-the sidewalk or outside display would ordinarily require both the lower and upper sectionsproperly joined together. One of the great ade vantages of this device is the foldable eonportions can be assembled and securely fastened so that they desired.
The device issimple of manufacture and consisting of a minimum numbent into proper shape and small number of inexpensive, ber ofelements held in this condition by a ,crossfrods- It 1s apparent that theupper portion oft-his display rack'may be easily I 1 separated from the lower portion by in'ani'pu- I loose fruit and food, or foranyotherisuitable otally 'mounting base portion, a supporting element'in the purpose.
What I'claim is 1. QAfood display crack comprising detachable upper and base portions, means for pivtheupper portion on the n will not move in relationship, to each otheror otherwlse, as may be per'p'ortion display, a plate shelf therefrom,
upper portion fromwhich' to suspend a food V display, a plate shelfpositioned in the lower theupper portione'nd of the upper portion, of the rack consisting of a plurality of rod elements bent into suitable form,
a plate to which the upper endsof the rods are fastened,
the supporting element being suspended therefrom, foldably arranged cross bars for thelower' ends of the rods, a pivotal betweenthe barsand upper plate :7
receiving connection 7 for allowing the rackto fold.
'2.- A .fooddisplay rack comprising detachable upper and-base portions, means for piv otally mounting base portion,
from which to suspend a "food the upper portion on the, asupporting element in the uppositioned in the lower end of the upper portion, the upper portion: oftherack'consisting' of a plurality of rod elements bent into suitable form, a plate to connection between the bars and upper plate for allowing thegrack to fold, the base porv'whichthe upper ends of the rods are'fastened, I the supporting element 'being suspended foldably arranged cross bars for receiving the lower ends of the rods, a pivotal tion comprising a plurality of bar elements bent into suitable form, and foldably ar-- ranged in respect to each other.
p, In testimony whereof I afiiX my signature.
