simple in structure, economical of manufacture, and highly efficient in use.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a back or holding member in which a plurality of combs` may be mounted in spaced relation.
Another object of the invention is the provision of a holding device for retaining the combs in spaced relation in the back or holder.
Other objectsv will appear hereinafter..
The invention consists in the combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described and claimed.
The invention will be best understood by a reference to the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification and in which,
Fig. 1 is a perspective View of the invention.
Fig. 2 is a view taken on line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken online 3 3 of Fig. 2.
Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
The device comprises a handle vor back forming portion 7 `which is provided with the recess 8 extending substantially from end to end thereof. Communicating with a recess 8 is a recess 9 extending well inwardly of t-he body of the back 7. Thel comb and brush unit is formed from a number of independent combs or teeth bearing members so that when the teeth on one of the members becomes broken, this member may be removed and replaced without necessitating the discarding of all of the other members. In the drawings I have illustrated six of these combs although the actual number used depends upon the size of the comb and the size of the back or handle 7.
The comb 1() is provided with a metallic eyelet 11 having the opening formed therein threaded. The end comb 12 is also provided with a collar or eyelet 13 having a threaded passage therein. Collars 14 serve to space the intermediate combs 15 from eachother. A carrying member 16 serves to space the centrally positioned combs apart, the screw`17 being projected through these colla-.rs and through the holding member 16 and threaded into theeyelet v13 and the eyelet 11 so as to securely bind-the combs together into a single unit.
As shown in Fig. 2, three sets of spacers have been used in the present form illustrated. The member 16 is provided intermediateA its ends with the offset portion or projection 18 adapted to engage snugly in the recess 9 so that when the backs of the combs engage the bottom of the recess 8, the edge of the projection 18 will engagefthe bottom of the recess 9. This member 16 with its projection 18 is preferably made of metal and is provided with threaded openings for the reception of the screws 19 and 2O which are projected through the vside walls of the back 7 into l these openings as shown-clearly in Fig. 2.
'.The engagement of the projection 18 in the recess 9 serves to prevent tilting or rocking of the comb unit in the holder, and the engagement of the side walls of the holder with thel sides of the comb unit serve to hold it in firm position. The screws 17, it will be noted, terminate flushwith the outer surfaces of the end of the outer combs 10 and 12 so thaty no projections are present to interfere with the firm or snug resting of the comb unit in the recess 8.
f It is believed' obvious that damage to one of thecombs would not require that the entire unit be discarded as either of the combs may be removed and replaced at will, 1t being but necessary to remove the screws 19 and 2O 1n order to vremove the unit from the back or holder'.
lVhile I have illustrated and described the Y preferred form of my invention, I do not wish to limit myself to the precise details of structure shown but desire to avail myself of such variations and modifications as may come within the scope of the appended claims.
. Having thus described .my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters cess formed in said holding member; and
means on said holding member for engaging Cil said projection and securing seid combs on said holding member.
2. In a device of the class described, Vet plurelity of combs positioned in parallel reletion; spacing members for spacing said combs apart; a threaded member formed in each of the outermost of said combs; and means threaded into seid threaded members and projecting through the inner positioned combs for retaining the same in position.
In testimony whereof have signed the foregoing specification.
LOUIS BUSHMAN.
