i DISPLAY RACK.
Application inea Mai-cil 7, 1927. sei-iai No. 173,255.v
Y lThis` invention relates to a display rack and is concerned with the production ofa very practical, rigid and durable display rack,
inade in a very simple manner at low cost.
.5 Itis a primary object and purpose of '-.the present invention to make a display rack and equip the same withtilting shelves or shallow pans which are mounted on spaced apart supporting posts or standards and so cony struct the rack that the attachment of the shelves or pans to the posts gives sufcient strength and rigidity that it is not necessary to use any reinforcing cross bars or braces between the spaced apart vertical posts. This through between the ends of the rack, and
Fig. 3 is a fragmentary enlarged vertical. section illustrating the tilting mount of a shelf or panl on a post.
Like reference characters refer to like parts 0 in the different figures of the drawing. 3
tical posts 1 are used, the same being, preferably, made of channel iron for strength and elimination of weight.V The flanges of the channel extend outwardly. At the lower end of each of the posts 1 a horizontal bar 2, which also may be of channel iron, is permanently attached, said bars being attached at the inner sides of the post. Adjacent each end each bar 2 is equipped with a castor 3.
This pan or shelf is longer than the distancey between the posts 1 and openings are made in the bottom 4 through which the posts pass.
At the upper ends and at a plurality of points below said upper ends other similarl In the construction two spaced apart ver- Located directly above and resting upon shelves or pans of identical construction, eX- cept for size-are located and mounted for tilting adjustment. Each of these upper shelves or pans has a bar S-of angle iron permanently secured Yattwo spaced apart points transversely of and' at the under side of itsV bottom 1l. The angle bars 8 are spaced apart `a distance such that their downwardly eX- tending vertical legs lie against-the inner sides of the posts 1 when any shelf or pan is applied. to said posts. wise are provided with openings in their bottoms 4t so as to slide downwardly on the post and permit tilting. Pivot bolts 9 pass through the webs of the posts 1 and through These shelves lilrethe vertical legsl of the angle 8 so that the shelves or pans may be turned about a horizontal axis to different angular positions.
Connected to the vertical legs of each of the angle bars 8 is an arc-shaped bar 10 substantially semi-circular in form; The ends 10,
bar. The olf-set end portions l()2L are permanently secured to the bars 8 by welding, riveting or other equivalent fastening means. In
the curved are portions of each of the niembers 10, a plurality of openings 11 are made in substantial alignment with each other, the saine being spaced apart and adapted to come into conjunction, any one of them, with'an opening made through the web of the adj acent post 1. A bolt 12 maybe passed through openings which are in conjunction or alignment and thereby hold the pan orv shelf in any position to which it has been adjusted. It may be held horizontal, one of which is shown between the upper and lower ends of Fig. 2.
This. construction of display rack` Vhas proved very practical. By reason of the rigid attachment of the angle bars 8 to the undersides of the-shelves or pans said bars in turn having a pivotal mounting at 9 on the vertical post, the shelves serve not only as shelves'but as brace or cross members between the vertical posts 1. This is helped bythe connection of lthe metal curved members 10 which come snugly against the inner sides as described. The invention is dened in the i to the posts, and members semi-circular in form attached one to each off the trans- Verse hars and extending downwardly therefrom and lying against the inner sides ot' said posts, said lneinhers having a plurality of spa-ced apart openings therethrough and said posts having openings therethrough under the openings in said ineinbers, and a bolt to pass through the openings in said posts and the openings in saidnieinhers, substantially as described.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
ELVAI-i o. BULMAN.
