IMPROVEMENT IN PAPER BOXES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 169,992, dated November 16, 1875; application filed May 28, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID L. HAWKINS, of Elizabeth, in the county of Union and State of New Jersey, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Paper Boxes; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of a perspective view of my pill-box, and Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same.
The object of my invention is to improve pill-boxes which are made of paper or other material by printing on the periphery of the cover, or on the periphery of the body of the box, twelve numbers, corresponding to twelve hours of a day, which numerals are arranged at regular intervals apart around the box, and have combined with them a pointer, which, when it is adjusted to register with a given number, will indicate the hour for taking a dose of medicine, as will be understood from the following description.
In the annexed drawings I have represented a circular pill-box, which I prefer to make of paper, although it may be made of metal or other material.
A designates the body of the box; B, the cover thereof, and a the circular rim of the cover. Around the periphery of the rim a are twelve numbers, running from number 1 to 12, and arranged at regular intervals apart, and corresponding to twelve hours. The spaces between the numbers are equally divided, indicating fractions of an hour. On the periphery of the body of the box is a fixed pointer, b, which, when it is made to register with a number on the rim of the cover, will indicate the time for taking the medicine as prescribed by the physician.
Instead of printing the numbers on the rim of the cover they may be printed on the periphery of the body of the box, in which case the pointer b will be on the rim of the cover.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
As a new article of manufacture, a pill-box having printed on the periphery of the cover, or on the periphery of the body of the box, twelve num bers, corresponding to twelve hours of a day, which numerals are arranged at regular intervals apart around the box, and a pointer to indicate the hour for taking a dose of medicine, substantially as described.
