UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
JULIUS PATTEN, OF IAJ'UISBURG, GERMANY.
SHIN-BONlE-PROTECTING SHIELD FOR SPORTS.
Application filed December 14, 1926, Serial No. 154,801, and in Germany October 31, 1925.
Protecting shields ior parts ot the human body have become known which consistoil a curved plate which is fixed on. the body by means of straps so that the shield is 5 slightly spaced from the body. Protecting devices of this type are mainly used to protect the breast and to intercept feeble strokes, caused 'tor instance by balls.
According to the invention an insertion of 10 elastic material is substituted for the support-ing straps, said insertion extending over the shin-bone under the protecting shield so that even the strongest shocks are intercepted. n
An embodiment of the invention is shown, by way of example, in the accompanying drawing, in which Fig. l shows the protecting shield in front elevation.
Fig. 2 is a section on line 2-2 Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows in side elevation the protecting shield tor the shin-bone fixed on the leg. The protecting shield consists ot a plate a and shield ot semi-circular cross section, 25 which has outwardly `iianged long edges 0 with which the side edges of an insertion b engage. The insertion b is of such width that, when it is fixed on the inner surface of the shield a, a tree space f is left between the shield` and the insertion. The lower edge ai ot' the shield a is cut out as shown so thatV the shin-bone protector' nts better over the ankle-joint. The protecting shield is attached on the leg by means of elastic straps e which are passed through eyes g of the shield a. `A stretching device ot any convenient known type may be arranged inor on each strap c.
I claim A shin-bone protecting shield for sports, comprising in combination, a shield ot semicircular cross section, outwardly flanged edges on the long sides of said shield, an insertion of elastic material fixed in the flanged edges of said shield and extending in space relation theretoV across the inner side ot said shield so that a free space is formed between said inner surface ot said lshield and said insertion, and straps ot elastic material for attaching said shield on the leg.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature.
