This invention relates to an improved clip and is iarticularl adapted for holding closely aiigned fol s of cardboard zand the like, such as those foldsthat a re made in the forining of the knock-down type of cardboard box and isv designed to hold the box in its erected or formed position.
The object of the invention is to provide a clip of this kind which is qui ly atw tached andwhich requires no compression or other manipulation but is simply slid on lon 'tudinally and is not readily removable wit out eifort.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanyin drawing in which Figure 1 is a view of t e corner of a box partly folded and with a clip embod in our` invention shown above the fold an Figure 2 is a similar view showing the fold completed and a clip in position. Figure 3 is a side view of the clip shown in Figures 1 and 2. Figures 4 and 5 are a face and a side view, respectively, of a modified form of clip.
Since the clip is used usually in fastening boxes, we will'describelits use in this connection. We show in the drawing a corner of a cardboard box in which the side walls 10 and 11 are formed from the same blank, these being connected by the folded parts 12 and 13 which are closely athered as shown in Figure 2 when the up into its formed or completed shape -and the cli is passed down over such parts of the fol s and in the drawin we show all of the folds embraced by the c ip and the clip is slid on longitudinally.
The clip is'made up of a sheet of metal usually a flat strip folded over upon itself to form a return bend and in Figures 1 and 4o. 2 we show a strip bent toI form the end arms 14 and 15 joine at their inner end by vthe loop`16 the material being substantially stiif but sudiciently resilient to permit it to 'be slid down over the box wit out tearing or marrmg the box to any material extent.

The clip shown in Figures 1, 2 and 3 is `rovided with barbs 17 formed on the edge y slitting or unching from the ed e inward and ben ing the metal inward y toward the other arm 15 and projecting it toward the closed end 16 of the clip so that the clip is held against accidental removal because the barbs 17 enter the material of the box. One barb may be used but'two are preferred, these being sta gered, one being arranged slightly above t e other so as to not weaken the metal which would be the case if they were o posite one another.
In Figures 4 and 5 we show a modified form in which the barbs 17 are sup lemented by barbs 18 similarly formed ut arranged on the other arm ofthe clip so that both the inner side and the outer side of the box are engaged by the clip to prevent removal.
These clips, it will be noted, do not provide any barbs which can injure the contents of the box which feature is desirable because these boxes are mostly used for the delivering of Clothing and nothin that a proximates sharp projections s ould present on the inside of the box.
-The ends of the arms 14 and 15 are preferably slightly turned as at 19 and 20 to provide a partl divergent opening so that the clip is easi y apphed thls being aided by the fact that one of t e arms, as at 15 is extended somewhat lower than the end of the arm 14.
We claim: g
A clip for binding the overlappingcorner flaps of cardboard boxes, comprlsmg a strip o metal bent into a return bend toreceive the said flaps and having barbs struck ulp from edges and incline toward the c osed end of the clip, the barbs being pointed and inclned inwardly to revent removal of the clip after it is a p -'ed.
