SHIRT.
Application led January 28, 1925. Serial No. 5,344.
My present invention has reference to an .outer shirt for men.
in which a shirt of the ordinary construction is used. A
A further object is to produce a reversible shirt, that is, a shirt in which either side thereof may be alternately used as the frontof the shirt, and in which the cuffs are foldable-so that the outer portion or fold thereof may be arranged either upon the inner or outer faces ofy the sleeves, and further m which the respective faces of the shirt, 1ncluding the sleeves may be differently colored so that the shirt will present different effects or designs when worn in reverse positions by the user.
Viith the above broadly stated objects in view and others which will appear .as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference is to be had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure l is a perspective view of a shirt inaccordaiice with this invention.
Figure 2 is a top plan view thereof.
Figure 3 is an approximately central transverse sectional view through the body of the shirt.
Figure 4C is a perspective view of the sleeve showing` the folds of the cuff in one position.
Figure 5 is a similar view showing the fold of the cuff in a reverse position to that disclosed in Figure 4.
'Td/Thile in the showing of the drawings I have disclosed a shirt whose front and rear are of different materials, it is to be understood that both the front and back may be of the same material and design. My shirt is constructed in view of economy and is primarily designed for the poorer class of men. It is well known that mens shirts are liable to the most wear around the collar band. 'i` his is sometimes occasioned by the points of the collar contacting the shirt atthis part, but primarilybecause of the different materials between the band and the body of the shirt so that the softer body, during the washing of the garment, becomes worn or torn.V The body of the shirt is of soft material, and as -both sides of the garment may be worn -as the front, it may be found desirable to construct the sides of material hav-y ing different designs. For distinction, I will indicate one side ofthe body by the numeral l and the opposite side by the numeral 2. These sides have their ledges stitched together and are formed with the sleeves. 3 in the usual manner. The cuffs 4 of the sleeves are of the fold type and the outer or fold portion of the said cus, for distinction, are indicated in the drawings bythe numeral 5. rlhe bodies l and 2 are centrally opened, and the over and underlying lapping portions thereof are connected together by the usual buttons 6 on the underlying portions of the garment that are received through buttonholes in the overlying portions of the garment. The button holes and the heads of the buttons are concealed by flaps 7 that are stitched to the outer face of the body portions 1k and 2. The collar band 8 is also constructed of two sections stitched to the neck portion of the sectional bodies l and 2 and provided with the usual lapping portions fornied with the openings for the collar buttons. Y
F rom the foregoing it will be apparenttliat either side of the shirt may be worn as the front thereof, and the folds of the cuffs l may be arranged inwardly or outwardly, as disclosed in Figures l and 5 of the drawings to correspond with the material on the body providing the front of the shirt.
Having described the invention, I claim An outer garment comprising two similar sections adapted to be connected to each other to provide a shirt and including lapping edges at the opposite sides of the center of the shirt, covered interengaging means for said lapping edges, a collar band section for each similar section and being likewise lapping and'formed with button openings at the lapped edges thereof, said similar sections including cuifed sleeves and together with the sleeves being formed by and equally divided into material of different design, the cuffs of the sleeves being foldable and having their respective inner and outer faces of a design corresponding with the design of the similar sections and sleeves respectively, and said sections being adapted to be reversed from back to front with the sleeves arranged likewise to present either side of the shirt foremost with the design of the sides appearing accordingly.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature.
GEORGE O. OLSEN.
