IMPROVEM EN'l' IN SOAP-PRESSES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 163,232, dated May 11, 1875 application filed March 22, 1875.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANTHONY NEUPERT, of the city of Buffalo, in the county of Erie and State of New York, have invented certain Improvements in Soap-Presses, of which the following is a specification:
This invention relates to that class of soappresses which are provided with two movable dies, the upper one being attached to a plunger, while the lower one fits in a box or mold secured to a fixed bed.
When the lower die is in its normal position, which is about flush with the top of the pressing-box, the cake of soap to be pressed is placed thereon, and the 'upper die lowered, whereby the lower die and cake are depressed into the box in which the cake is pressed. This being completed, both dies are elevated to their former position whereby the lower die is made to expel the pressed cake from the box.
Previous to my invention the lower die has generally been constructed so as to rest loosely upon the rod or bar operating the same, in order to enable the die to be readily removed when required to be exchanged. This construction is objectionable, for the reason that the detached lower die is apt to adhere to the cake of soap, after being pressed, and is sometimes raised out of the pressing-box with the cake.
As machines of this kind are generally operated at a high speed, the attendant sometimes i'ails to notice the displacement of the lower die before the next downward movement of the upper plunger takes place, when the breaking or disfiguring of the dies frequently results.
My invention consists of an attachment to the lower die, whereby the latter is prevented from being accidentally raised-out of the pressing-box, while permitting the ready removal of the die when required.
In the accompanying drawing, Figure 1 is a fractional side elevation of a soap-press provided with my improvement, the lower part being in section. Fig. 2 is a front elevation thereof. Fig. 3 is a top-plan View of the pressing-box and lower die. Fig.4 is a bottom-plan view thereof.
Like letters of reference designate like parts in each of the figures.
A is the frame of the machine; B, the up per die, attached to a plunger rod or bar, I), in the ordinary manner. 0 is the bed-plate or table; and D, the pressing-box, secured to the upper side thereof by flanges cl. E is the reciprocating rod by which the lower die is operated. All of these parts are constructed and arranged in the ordinary manner. F is the lower die, arranged in the box D, so as to slide therein, and f a guide-pin, extending downwardly from its under side through an opening in the bed of the machine, as clearly shown in Fig. l. g is a removable stop, of any suitable form, arranged in the guide-pin f in such a manner that when the die F has been raised sufficiently high by the rod E to discharge the pressed cake of soap from the boX D, as represented in Fig. 2, the stop 9 will come in contact with the bed 0 and prevent the further upward movement of the lower die.
As represented in the drawing, the stop 9 consists of a pin bent at right angles, and inserted with one part in a hole formed in the guide-pin f, while the other part extends to the front end of the bed, so as to be in easy reach of the operator.
\Vhen the dies are required to beexchan ged, the upper die is detached in the ordinary manner, while by Withdrawing the stop-pin g from the guide-pin f the lower die is free to be raised out of the pressing-box, when a different die can be inserted in its place.
What I claim as my invention is- The combination, in a soap-press, with the bed 0 and pressing-box D, of the removable lower die F, actuated by the disconnected plunger-rod E, and provided with guide-pin f and detachable stop g, substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
