This invention relates to oilsavers for use on cables of oil wells. V
' a An important object of theinvention is to produce 1 a device of this character which eifectually prevents the loss ofoil and what ismore important, the spilling ofthis oil upon the deck of a derrick and which accomplishestheseends without applying friction to the cable line which would tend to roughen'and finally destroythe same;
In the 'ordinaryii'orm of oil saver employed with cable lines,a packing is provided for the cable; lineot itself with the result that the cable in its reciprocation in the packing becomes worn and the various strands'of the outer surface thereof broken so that they project and engageinthe packing, rapidly" rehdering the same useless. Furthermore the cable line by the breakage of its strandsv becomes-weakened so that it niay part and falling-into the well renders an expensive and lengthyfishing operatlon necessary. Accordingly, an important object of this invention isto' provide a oasi-ngifor the cable line which in itself forrns a packer and. prevents capillary movement oi lthe oil alongthecable line, this casing beingrin turn operatedthrouglr a packer which will pre vent the-passage of oil upwardly. upon the casing. y i

The lower packer s then assembled about the rod, packing inserted therein from the upperend and the packer moved bodily upon the line and threaded to thelower end of the casing 12.

4. In an oil saver for cable lines, a longicasing adapted to be assembled thereabout, each of said means including hinged sec tions adapted to be assembled about the casing line and in their assembled relation having threaded engagement with the ends of the casing.

In combinationwith va reciprocable V cable and a control head throughfliwhich the cable reciprocates, a packer seated upon the I control head, a casing slidably directed through the packer and surrounding the cable, means at the lower end of the casing for packing the casing-to the'cable, means at the upper end ofthe casing combining with the casing to produce a packing gland including a part securing the upper end of the casing to the cable and a sectional fol lower for said gland and movable from the gland while said part is connected with the 7 cable.
