, structed that the polish is very uniformly distributed upon the pad. H
A further object of the invention is to provide in combination with a dispensing device of this character a hollow handle in communication with the dispensing device for containing a supply of the polish. 7
Other objects and advantages of the invention will become apparent throughout the course of the following description.
My invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein f Figure 1 is a longitudinal sectional view through a polish applier constructed in accordance with my invention; P
Figure 2 is an enlarged section on the line 2''2 of Figure 1';
Figure 3 is a section on the line 8-3 of Figiu'e 2.
Referring now more particularly to the drawing, the numeral 10 indicates a cylinder, one end 11 of which is closed and the other end of which has a removable cap 12. The end 11 has a central opening 13 for coaction with a valve 14: carried by the lower end of a stem 15, the upper end of which projects through the cap '12 and has an actuating thumb-piece 16. Upon the stem within the cylinder is arranged a piston comprising a metal body 17 having a cork washer 18 applied thereto. Between the lower end 11 and the piston a spring 19 surrounds the stem and constantly urges the same-upwardly and the body of the cylinder immediately beneath the lower end of the piston when in its raised position has openings 20 formed there-' in through which fluid polish may be fed from any suitable source. Beneath the cap a packing 21 is arranged for packing the stem 15 against possible leakage. The stem, when forced downwardly, to its lowermost position, unseats the valve and closes the openings 20, thereby preventing the entrance of further fluid from the source to the cylinder while forcibly ejecting the fluid already contained therein. 'A housing 22 is removably connectedto the upper end of the cylinder for the purpose of preventing accidental'actuation of the stem. l
Extending outwardly from the sides of the cylinder between the lower end thereof and openings 20 is a flange '23, the outer edges of which are provided with downturned flanges 24 which are eXte'riorly screw- 1 threaded. A block 25 having a bore 26 fitting the cylinder is seated within the cap thus provided and is so constructed that it its exterior at this projectingportion with a'downwardly facing shoulder'27. An interiorly and exteriorly' threaded retaining projects from the cap and is provided'upon ring 28 engages the threaded exterior of the flange 24 and at its lower end an inturned flange 29 for'engagement against the shoul-.
der 27 to'maintain the block in position in the cap. That portion of the block seating within the cap is provided in its periphery presently appear.
in a downwardly tapering bore 31 and against the lower face of the block is seated a fiber washer pad 32, the opening of which with a groove 30, the purpose of which will f likewise tapers downwardly and is very small at its lower end. This pad may be glued or otherwise secured to the block 25 and is covered, together with the block, by anloth covering 33, the edges of which are maintained in position in the groove 30 durmg insertion of the block and pad by a small rubber band, indicated at'S L. Once the block and pad together with the cover are in applied position, the cover will be maintained in its applied position by the engagementof they retaining ring 28 therewith. A cover for the applying pad or dauberthus produced isprovided in a cup-shaped casing 35 having a threaded end 36 for engagement with the retaining ring 28 and having a shoulder for engaging the "flange 29 of the retaining ring against which is seated a packing 37. This packing makes the cover air-tight, thereby preventing undue drying of the dauber. The supply for this cylinder is preferably in the form of a hollow tube 38, one end of which is permanently closed, as indicated at 89, and the opposite end of which has a removable screw cap 40 through which fluid may be replenished. The cylinder 10 is so positioned in the tube 38 that the openings 20 are immediately above the lower wall of the tube and fluid will flow therethl ough a s long; as there ie l'e inlini v the paid 1n.1ts movement 'ovei' the face tapered ing in the tube.
In the use 01 the device, When the plunger is forced inwardly, the liquid polish .is forcibly ejected from the eylinder rby the piston which in its initial lnoveineiit ind'at all times during its moye nentto and fi oin the position in which the 'vel've is closed eeals the openings t0 preventtlm ad- E18 valve, it he titted hits it upper "truly end the i t 2 9 T e op n n d we.
