REMOVABLE-BLADE cur'rrne Dnvren.
! fApplication fllediebrua'ry 18,1925; Serial No. 9,595.
This application is intended .as' an improvement over my" pending application Serial Number 703.209.v
My invention is intended for use by clerks, seamstresses wrappers, and all others who use the same vin the regular course of their work, for the cutting 01 string, e d, thread andtlie' like, and is adapted to be worn upon a finger or thumb of tie user of the same. i H I Further objects of my invention consist in thezfa'ct that the mainband for mounting the cuttin device is adapted to being ringer; and nc-ed not be an endless band.
'Further objects consist of the method of mounting the blade-holder and guard for the removable'blade. i
. l urther objects consist a new andv novel means. for maintaining. the-cutting and blade hold n ositifon, without astenlngs.
theuse of screwsyor other A further object of my invention cone sists of acne piece spllt blade-holder and guard and locking means -tor maintaining the cutting blade therein.
A further object of my invention consists in holding guide-ways being from the band material, which areadapted to maintain the blade holder and guard and the blade in frictional relationship therewith. i
.Mv invention relies in certain new, useful and novel construction and arrangement of parts as will hereinafter be described.
,The same is fully illustrated in the accompanying drawmgsandwrll be more tully pointed out in theappended claims.
Reference is hadto the accompanying drawings, in which- 1 Fig. 1 is a side elevation of the'assembled device.
Fig.
inFigJl. v '3 is a planview of the mechanism in Fig: 1,
Fig. shown V Fig. 4 1s a plan view taken on line 4% of Fig. 1 lookingin the direction indi-- cated.
Fig. 5 1s a fragmentary sectional view taken on line 55 of Fig.1 looking int-he direction indicated. g V
Fig. 6is a perspective View of the blade holding guardand the blade shown removed from the rin g guard units, in locked formed 2 is an end View of the mechanism construction shown is in order that but one sizemay sufiice for a variety of finger sizes oi the users. This constructlon will minimize the number of sizes of rings that will.
be required to bemade. Thisconstructiou permits of the expansion and contraction V or theband or ring. The band is made with an elongated upper surface; of substantial area, as shown at a to torn a con.- tacting surface of greater area with the finger of user. This increased surface contact with the finger is to minimize the pressure exerted upon the ring at the time of the cutting operation with the finger.
Struck from the main body of the band are upturned members 5, 6, 7 and 8 formed in such a manner" as to create tapering guideways, adapted to holding the blade holder and guard and the blade which is so constructed as to permit of the same be ing inserted intothe tapering guideway.
The blade holder and guard 9 is split upon in alignment. The upturned end 12 of the blade holder and guard acts as a guide to facilitate thepassage of the cord to be out over the cutting edge of the blade. The guide ways formed from the struck members 5, 6, 7 and 8 are wider at the forward ends tharithey are at the rear ends and the in sertion of the blade holder and guard 9 with the cutting blade therethrough and therein has a tendency to force the splitportion 10 and 11 inward and to a clasping engagement with the lower portion of the blade 14:. The blade holder and guard and the blade are inserted in the guideway as an assembled unit, and in such a manner that the cutting force exerted has a tendency to force the blade holder and guard and the blade into intimate frictional relationship with the tapering guide way, due to the narrowing up of the guide way in the direction that the blade holder and guard are forced by the cutting energy exerted.
A pressure upon the blade holder and guard 9 in the opposite direction to that of the cuttin force and toward the wider end of the tapering guideway will disengage the blade holder and guard and the blade from the guide way and from the band or ring. lVhen removed from the tapering guide way the cutting blade 14 may be removed from the blade holder and guard and a sharp cutting blade reinserted therein.
avingthus described my invention, I wish to make the following claims therefor:
1. A removable blade cutting device comprising a band having an elongated top surface, a tapering guide way struck transversely of the elongated top, a blade holder and guard adapted to receive a cutting blade therein said blade holder and guard adapted to engagement with the tapering guide way and to maintain the cutting blade in fixed position within the blade holder and guard when inserted in the' tapering guideway.
2. A removable blade cutting device comprising a band adapted to being reduced and enlarged, an elongated top surface having a tapering guideway disposed partially across said elongated top surface, a blade holder and guard and a blade adapted to engagement within the tapering guide way, said blade holder and guard and blade adapted to engagement and disengagement from the guide way, and the blade adapted to engagement and disengagement from the blade holder and guard.
3. A removable blade cutting device comprising a flexible band, an elongated top surface formed thereon, a ta aering guideway formed on said elongated top surface, a blade holder and guard removably mount ed within said guideway, and a blade detachably placed within said blade holder and guard.
4. A. removable blade cutting device comprising a contractible and expandible band, having an elongated portion formed thereon, upturned members on said elongated top portion forming a tapered guideway. a blade holder and guard removably positioned within said tapered guideway, and a detachable blade rcmovably maintained within said blade holder and guard.
