Description

March 23 1926.
T. S. HOUGE MUCILAGE BOTTLE Filed June 19, 1925 Patented Mar. 23, 19243.
new srars riser MUCILAGE BOTTLE.
Application filed June 19, 1925. Serial No. 38,296.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Tiioilns S. HoUen,
a citizen of the United States, residin at \Vinona, in the county of \Vinona and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in a l\ incilage Bottle, of which the following is a specificationv This invention relates to an improved mucilage bottle, and it has more particular reference to novel means provided for spreading the glue or mucilage upon a sur face, and to obviate the necessity of using a brush such as is ordinarily provided.
One feature of the improved structure is r a novel cap provided with a discharge opening from which an inclined spreader plate extends, whereby to permit the mucilage to be discharged onto this plate and then rubbed by the latter onto the surface adapted to receive it.
Another feature is a positive controlling valve for the discharge opening which is operated from the bottom of the bottle.
Other features and' advantages of the invention will become apparent from the following description and drawing.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this application and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same:
Figure 1 is a central vertical section, with parts in elevation, of a mucilage bot tle constructed in accordance with the present in vention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation taken at approximate right angles to Figure 1.
Referring to the drawing in detail the reference character 1 designates a suitably shaped bottle which in the present instance has a depression 2 formed at the center of its bottom. The depression is in turn formed with a central neck 3, the opening of which is tapered as shown. The open top of the bottle is provided with screw threads. 45 A screw threaded top 1 is fitted onto the screw threaded top of the bottle and this top is provided at its center with an upwardly pressed central portion 5 which in turn is provided with a discharge mouth 6. Formed integral with and extending at an. angle from this month is a spreader plate including relatively narrow and wide portions 1 ad 8 respectively, porticns are disposed at the approximate rela tive angles shown in Figure 1 and are provided with depressed grooves or channels 9 and 10, the channel 9 being the main channel, and the channels 10 being branch channels.
Gooperative with the mouth 6 is a closing stopper 11' pressed against its seat by a spring 12 surrounding the operating rod 18 and bearing against the shoulder 14 carried thereby. The rod extends down through the neck 3, and is provided on its bottom with a finger piece 15 above which is a conical enlargement 16 cooperative with the neck 3.
In use, the bottle is reversed, and the finger piece 15 is depressed to unseat the stop-- per or valve 11, thus allowing the mucilage which is in the bottle to flow out through the discharge mouth 6, and onto the spreader plate. Through the medium of the grooves, the mucilage is distributed over the area of the spreader plate, and by allowing the valve to close again, the spreader plate can be manipulated somewhat in the fashion of a brush to apply the mucilage to the surface desired.
While I have shown the preferred embodiment of my invention, it is to be understood that various changes in the size, shape, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to, within the field of the invention claimed.
Having thus described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. In a device of the class described, a bottle provided in its bottom with a depression at the center of which is a neck, the upper end of said bottle being screw threaded, a screw cap threaded onto said upper end, said cap being provided with outwardly pressed portion having a discharge mouth, a valve fitting into said month, an operating rod connected to said valve and extending downwardly through said neck, an enlargement carried by said rod and fitting normally into said neck, a
finger piece on the lower end of said rod located in said depression, and a. spring cooperative with a shoulder 011 said rod for maintaining said valve closed.
2. As a new article of manufacture, a removable closing cap for a muoilage bottle wherein the neck of the bottle is formed with. screw threads, said cap having a screw threaded attaching flange and a circular botportion, said portion being formed with a central groove and said outer portion being provided with a plurality of radiating 1o grooves connected with the first innned groove.
In testimony whereof I aflix In, signature.
THOMAS s. Honor).
