COMBINED COVEBLET AND DOLL.
Application filed March 6, 1924. [Serial No. 697,224.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, VVINIFRED GUGLIEL- MI (Mrs. RUDOLPH VALENTINO), professionally known as NATAGHA RAMBOVA, a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, county of New York, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Ooverlets and Dolls, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an article of manufacture for childrens use, and hasfor its main object to provide an article of the character described which may be converted into a wrap, a carriage robe, or serve as a doll.
With the foregoing and other objects in view, hereinafter stated, the invention consists of the novel construction, combination and arrangements of parts hereinafter more specifically stated, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, wherein is shown an article embodying the invention in its preferred form, but it is to be understood that changes, variations and modifications may be resorted to without departing from the scope of the invention.
In describing the invention in detail reference is had to the accompanying drawings, which form a part of this specification, and wherein like characters of reference indicate corresponding parts and wherein Fig. 1 is a front elevation of an article mnbodying the invention folded so as to be used as a 'doll or ornamental pillow and Fig. 2 is a plan of the body of the article extended its full length.
As illustrated, in the drawing 1 represents a body formed of woven or knit material and adapted to be folded over onto itself to form panels or sections, each panel or section preferably having a curved margin 2.
A representation of a doll is attached to one side of the body and is preferably ar-- ranged in one of the sections thereof.
The doll section is provided with a face 3 which is secured to the body by means of a row of stitching 4t, and the face is preferably built out or raised from the body by means of a backing or filling between the body and face to give the face a more realisticeffect than if arranged flat on the body.
A hood 5 's secured to the body with its margins stitched thereto and the hood is likewise preferably raised somewhat from the body at the portions intermediate its edges by means of backing or filling.
The doll section is also provided with a dress 6 which is preferably free from the body except at its upper and lateral margins which are secured to the body by means of rows of stitching 7: Feet 8 are provided with extensions or legs which are secured to the body and the feet themselves extend below the lower free endof the dress 6 as shown in the drawing. 1
The feet are free from the body portion and may be moved to a limited extent and may be made of any suitable material such as rubber or cloth stuffed with any suitable material to give a full effect to the feet.
Hands 9 are also provided with 'eXtensions connected with the body and extend through slots 10 formed in the dress 6.
The hands like the feet are preferably made of rubber and rounded to give a full effect and appearance and like the feet may be moved to a limited extent relative to the body.
If desired sections representing an under garment may be attached to the body at its lateral and upper margin by rows of stitchmg.
In the drawing the representation of the doll is shown as placed upon one of the outer sections of the body. That is not an essential feature of the invention and if desired the doll section may be attached to any other section.
It is well understood that children, especially babies must be kept warm and comfortable at all times and during suitable seasons of the year suitable coverings and wraps must be provided in addition to their ordinary dress.
The article herein described and illus trated is specially adapted to be wound around a baby in folds and the folds secured together and around the baby by means of a ribbon 11 or other suitable means which is shown as attached to the body of the article and passed through slits 12 formed in the body of the garment as shown in Figure 2.
The body may bernade of any desired width so as to extend beyond the head and feet of a child to the desired extent.
In addition to serving as a wrap or blanket incfolds for a child the body of the article may be extended or" folded: to" a 1 lesser extent and be used as a carriage blanket or robe.
In both of such cases, that'is W-h'ether used as a Wrapping blanket, or as a carriage'robe, the representation of the doll is displayed and lends a pleasing and ornamental effect to the blanket or robe.
It is Well recognized thatbabies naturally reach and stretch out their arms and'hands and'grasp small objects Within-reach. For that reason, and in! order to provide objects to attract the attention of a child the hands and feet areprovided and given a free movement to a limitedextentin order thatthey may be grasped and played with by a child as: Well as to give a realistic effect to the appearance of the doll.
In addition to the foregoingnses and pur poses when the body is folded on itself: and the folds secured together by means of the ribbon 11 the article canbe used and fondled by children as a doll. Tothem the entire article is a doll. VVhen so folded moreover the article may be used as an ornamental pillow for a'couch or. lounge or placed. in such; a POSl'lZ'IOIL as 'a matter of convenience for the. parents when not in actual use around or over a: child.
a fabric body of greater length than Width,
and a doll formed on, said body and extending transversely thereofhaving a head raised from said body and stitchedfthereto, and feet flexibly connected With' said fabric body. g
3 A convertible robe and coverlet comprising a fabric body of, greater length than Width,.and the simulation of an animate object formed on said body, portionsof said objectbeing puffed and stitched at their margins to said fabric and other portions-of said object being puffed and flexibly connected with said fabric. 7
In testimony whereof I- haveaflixed' my signature.
