BUCKLE FOR WEARINGr-APPAREL.

Speccation of Letters Patent No. 15,666, dated September 2, 1856.

To all whom t may concern Be it known that I, EDWARD PARKER, of Plymouth, in the county of Litchfield and State of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in theConstruction` of Buckles; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and eXact description of thesame, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, in which- Figure l, is a face View of a blank, showing the form of the bow and loop as they are struck or swagedpfrom a met-al plate. Fig. 2, is a face view of my improvement completed. Fig. 3, is a transverse section of Fig. l, the plane of section being through the center. Fig. 4l, is a transverse section of Fig. 2, the plane of section being through the center.

My invention consistsin striking or swaging the bow and loop in one piece from a metal plate and securing the tongue there in by bendingthe center cross piece which divides the bow and loop around the shank of the tongue, as will be presently described.

To enable others skilled in the art to fully understand and construct my invention, I will proceed to describe it.

A, represents the bow and B, is the loop which are divided by a cross piece C. These parts are all struck or swaged in one piece from a metal plate. The cross piece C, is somewhat wider than the other portions of the blank and have two recesses c, a, cut

in one edge, said recesses being a suitable distance apart, the distance being equal to the length of the shank of the tongue.

The tongue D, is formed of a single piece of wire bent as shown in Figs. 1 and 2, so as to form the prongs b, o, c being the shank. The shank c, is placed behind or underneath the cross piece C, the ends of the prongs b, b, resting uponithe outer end of the bow A, as shown in Figs. 1 and 3, and the edges of the cross piece C, are bent by any proper means around the shank C, as shown in Figs. 2 and 4, and the prongs Z9, are allowed to work in the recesses o, c. By bending the cross piece C, around the shank c, the tongue is firmly secured in the bow and the bow and loop may be bent or swaged in concave form with any ornamental design or gure upon them.

'Ilie `above mode of construction is eX- tremely simple and a durable and economical buckle is obtained thereby.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

. Swaging or cutting the blank, or, the bow A and loop B, entire or in one piece from a metal plate and securing the tongue D, in the buckle by bending or closing the cross piece C, around the shank c, substantially as shown and described.
