'Be it known that I KURT -W.mnnn, a citizen of Wurttemberg, who have declared my intention of becoming a citizen of the 5 United States, and resident of New -York city, county of New York, State of New York, have invented an Improvement 1n A paratus for Making stretchable Paper, of which the following description, in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification, like characters on the drawings representing like parts in each of the several views.

This invention relates to the manufacture of paper that is made stretchable by creping or crinkling so as to render it better adapte for wrapping, packing, case lining and like uses. The invention is carried out with the use of a suction box or device associated with the roll from which the paper is crped in a manner developed from my earlier application Serial No. 346,066, filed Dec. 19, 1919. It has long been recognized as desirable to provide a wrapping or lining paper that is stretchable in both directions, 1. e., both transversely and longitudinally of the web,

I have found that by the employment of a specially designed suction box in combination with a s cial crping roll and doctor, the latter equlpped with corrugations or like formation, the paper may be crinkled or crped so as to be stretchable to a very substantial degree in both directions.
