l rl`his invention relates to new and useful improvements in holders and particularly to devices for holding Christmas trees.

@ne object of the invention is `to provide a simple and durable device of this clair-ac.-

Another object is to provide a device of this character which can be more easily titted to the stub end' of 'the tree than with devices heretofore, b v reason of the detaclnibilit)l of thetree trunk receiving socket member. Another object is to provide a device of this character .which can be quickly and easily folded when not. in use.

Other objects and advantages `will be ap parent from the followingdescription when taken in connection with the accompanying drawing.

Disposed on the upper face of the casting is the base of the tubular tree trunk receiving socket member 181 and formed on the bottom of this member is a central downwardly extending lug 19, which enters said opening 15, and is.

of the said screw 17 therewith;V Four flat `metal legs Q0 are provided, and the upper end of each of the legs is rolled around a pivot pin 13, whereby said legs may be folded downwardly, when the device is not in use. Extending between opposite legs' are the brace members Q1. each having its ends turned'downwardly, as at E22, and disposed against the inner faces of said legs, said ends being apertured, as well as the legs, to re-l ceive the bolts 23 therethrough, winged nuts 2l being engaged on said bolts to clamp the braces against the legs. The braces 21. arepivotally connected together at their intersection. as indicated at Q5, so that when removed they may be folded for storage.

It will be noted that when the device is being set up, the walls 14 serve as stops to prevent too great spreading of the legs, therein` permitting the 'more easy application of the braces 21.

A tree holder comprising a centrally aper tured base having laterally directed pairs of apertured ears with oblique stop elements extending between individual pairs, a tree trunk receiving socket member disposed on the base-and having a central lug seated in the aperture of the base. means carried by the base for releasably` holding the lug in the base, supporting legs movably mounted between the pairs ofl ears and arranged to engage the said stop members, and releas able 4and foldable members connected with said legs.
