UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
HARRY FRANKEL, OF NEW YORK, N. Y,, ASSIGNOR TO FRANKEL CONNECTOR- CO.
'INC., 01 NEW YORK, N.'Y., A.
*CORPORATION OF ITEW CONNEG'IER.
- Application filed July 8,
Be it known that I, HARRY FRANKE'L, a citizen of the United States of -America,
- residing at New York, N. Y., have invented vice.
a new and useful Connecter, of which the following is a specification.
' My invention relates to a connecter device, particularly useful for effecting an electrical connection between a source of electrical supply and a storage battery, although it'is not limited in use to this particular field.
- -The object of the invention is to provide a simple and effective means which is strong and durable, and w-hichmaybe'readily secured to a sup-ply wire or circuit.
In the drawings, v "Fig. l'is a perspective View before it i's ,'applied to the circuit wire. 3 Fig. 2 isv a similar view partly broken away showing the device, secured to the end of a circuit wire 3 is a plan View of a of the device portion of the de- Fig. 4 is alr ear end elevation of a modification 1 is a base plate having ajaw 2 at its forward end; and a tailpiece 3 at its rear end.
4'is a-plate having-1a jaw; 5 at its forward end, anda tailpiece-'6 at its rear end. The" plate 1' has upturnedcars at Opposite sides supportinga pivot pin 7. The plate 4 has dewnturnedcars mounted onthefpivot' 7.
The-tailpiece 3 has struckup earsat its eX-. receiving channelv 8. 9 is a screw directly forward of. the channel 8. 10 is a lug preferably struck up from' thebase of the plate 1 soas'to r0 ject forwardly after the manner of a hook as I l shown in ,Fig. 1.- This lug in the preferr'ed 40 form performs a two fold function as will I later be seen. 11 is a spring preferably made of a strip'bent in the-middle. v this spring rests under the tailpiece 6 of the i the jaws '25 .edg'es of;these jaws are preferably toothed One end of plate 4, whilethe other, end rests on the insideof-the p'la'te .1,the base of the lu'g 10acting' as a sto therefor. The bend-in the springexten s around the pivot The-ac tlon of the spring 11 is to powerfully force toward, each other, and the shown in saidfigure. Th
1921. Serial No. 483,129.-
thereunder- If desired, the screw 9 may also be utilized as shown in Fig. 3, in which event, the extreme end of the connecter wire may be simply bent under the screw-head as is not necessary in all cases.
In Fig. 4 I have .showna. modification of the spring element, in which, instead of forming thespring from a steel strip, I form the same of two wires indicated at 1111 "These .wires may have coilsintermediate their length which surround the. pivot pin 7 while ?the endsqof each spring may. bear against the .clip plates so asto exert the aforesaid pressure which tends to bring the jaws 2 5 together.v v may bemade right. and left as shown in 1 .4.
What I claim" is:
1. A connectercomprising two 'overlap-' ping 'j'aws pivotediinte'rmediate their length, a spring for operating said jaws, an vupstanding lug on oneof said jaws to receive oneend-of thespring and to receive,
a wire'connecten'and a pair of bendable lugs on',t-he .op osite side'ed es' of'the carrying t efirst-menfi nedlu'g. 2. A connector comprising two overlapping jaws pivotedintermediate their length,
a spring for operating saidjaws, an upstand- .lug on one of said jaws "to receive ohe of; the spring and toreceive a wireconsite side between the; and second mentioned-lugs.
I .1 HARRY screw 9, however,
The wire springs 11 andoverlapped so that a firm electrical as well the connecter wire passing jaw piece, :90,
06'. necter, 'a pair of bendable lugs on the. oppoedges of thejaw piece carrying the; Zfirst mentioned-Plug," and. a clamping screw
