IMPROVEMENT IN SPRING BED-BOTTOMS.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 153,898, dated August 11, 1874; application filed February 14, 1874.
drawings, where- Figure l is a top view of a bed embodying my said improvements. Fig. 2 is an end view ofthe same.
The invention consists in a combination ot' spiral-springs, connecting-links, and an outside frame having its end rails pivotcd to the ends of the side rails.
The letters a and b indicate the two baserails of the bed, having on their inner sides the grooves a and b', into which slip the tongued There are two crossbars, cl d, connected to the two base-rails in a different manner from the cross-bars c. These two cross-bars have Haring or dovetailed ends d tting into corresponding mortises in the tops of the base-rails. On the tops of the cross-bars are set and attached the spiral springs c, the upper ends of which are connected by the links f and g set at right angles to each other. The outer rows of the springs, at the two ends of the bed, are connected to the end rails i 'i by the links h, and the outer rows of the springs at the sides of the bed are connected to side rails m m by similar links h. The end rails are connected at the ends to the ends of the side rails by being pivoted upon the pins mf, so that the rising or falling motion of the side rails shall affect the end rails as little as is practicable. Each of the side rails is pivoted to one of the cross-bars by the arms n u, which hold the Whole frame-composed of the side and end rails-from any endwise motion on the baserails.
I claim as my invention- The combination ofthe spiral springs connected by links f g, the links h, the side rails m, and the end rails t', pivoted to the ends of the side rails, all substantially as shown and described.
