Description

May 19, 1925- 1533 S4? R. c. WHEELER I p REVERS IBLE HAT File Nov. e, 1922 INVENTOR. /Pqy 6'. #Wwe/efr Patented -May i9, 19215.
ROY.C. WHEELER, '0F BERKELEY, CALIFORNIA.
REVERSIBLE nur.
Application led November 6, 1922.A Serial No. 599,416.
To all whoml it l11mg/ concern.'
Be itl known that I, Roi C. lvlinnmzn, a citizen of the United States of America, and u resident of Berkeley, county ot Alameda,
and State of California, have invented a vnew and useful Reversible Hat, of which the following is u specification.
My invention relates to hats .and one of the objects of the invention is the provision of a reversible rooters hat.
My invention possesses other objects and features of advantage, Sonie of which, with the foregoing, will be set forth in the following 1escrlption of my invention. It is to be understood that I do not limit myself to the showing made by the said description, as Inlay adopt variant, forms of the invention within the scope of the claiiiis.
turned up. Fig. Q is a perspective view with the brin'i turned down. Fig. 3 is u sectional view on an enlarged scale of a-portion ofthe crown and rim,4 showing the lexible seam. Fig. 4 is a sectional view on 'an-enlarged scale thru the top'o ,{tlie 'crown showing` the ap lication ot'tli'" 'nishing plaques.
n terms of broad inclusion, my hat comprises a pair of hats secured together in reversible assembly so that either side may be worn outwardly. Preferably, the two hats are Triade of different colors. These .colors may be the schoolcolors of the wearer and since the hat may -be readily reversed to enpose either color, desirable mass effects in the rooters section during games or other school contests may be obtained.
lieferably I make the hat of two hats, one lying inside of the other, each hat-comprising a crown and a. brim secured edge to edge with the crown by a liexible seam. Rows of stitchingr thru the contiguous brims hold the two hat sections together in e unitary structure and the llexible seam between brini and crown portion enables the double brim to be turned up with equal facility' when either ,side 'is exposed.
In detail, my hat comprises a crown formed of segmental sections 2 lap-seemed together. At the top of the crown where the seams join, I. apply a finishing or reenforcement plaque formed of a diamondshaped piece 3, sui-mounted by a smaller diamondshaped piece 4. Preferably the piece il is of thc sume coluras the crown on which it 1s fixed wlnle the piece 4 is; of the color ot .the interior or other side of the hat'. A
brim t3 is secured edge to edge with the crown in a flexible seam formed b v a whip-stitch 7.
second hat 'of identical structure with thatjust described is placed within the outer hat and secured thereto byrows of stitching h' thru th'c contiguous brim-( and (3. The
. segment 2 of the second or inner hat need not be secured to the segment 2 of the outer hat but is provided with ai plaque at the in- 'terscction of the lap-senin comprising the pieces 3' and 4' as shown. in Fig. 4.
Preferably, indicia such as the'naine orA initials-of the school to .which the .student belongs are nrrungedon each side of thebrim as shown in Fig. 1,.,tlie color of such Referring to the drawings, Fig. l is a pere, spe-ctive4 view .of my hat with the brimindicia being tbatofthe'opposite side -of the brim. 'Such indicia may be applied in :my way but pieterablyiby means ot pieces of material stitched flat upon the brim.
lVitli the hat-arranged as in Fig. l, andthecolors of the two sides assumcd for example to be blue and gold, a blue crown with gold brim having the indicia in blue thereon -is displayed. A reversal of the hat effects a reversal of these colors' so that n gold crown with blue brim and gold indicia is shown. If one color only is desired for example blue, the brim is turned down with the gold side in. Vith a lrooters section filled with students, each with one of my hats, most novel and startling mass effects may ,be secured by concerted action in the wearing of the hats.
I claim:
1l A hat-comprising twin hat clcuicnts secured togcthcr'in a reversiblel unitary structurc., cach element comprising a crown and a brim united thereto by a llcxiblc sentii, said brim lying substantially lush with thc crown to produce :i smooth exterior surface at the. juncture of the crown and brim on both sides thereof.
2. A. hat comprising twin lhat elements secured together in a reversible unitary struc ture, each element comprising a crown and a brim edge to edge and substantially tlush on i both sides withv the crown, and. stitchin uniting the contiguous edges of crown an brim by .a flexible sea-m.
il. A unitary rever sible hat com risingA ion twin crown elements and twin brim e einentsv superimposed one upon the other and made the crowns and brims which permit: quick i of similar material, said twin brim elements reversibility of the hat and brim to thereby abutting the crovm element-s4 edge to edge expose different sides of the crowynand brim l0 A und lying substantially Hush with the crown elemehts, substantially as described.
5 elements t() Produce a, Smooth exterior sur-' In teStlmOhy lWhel'eOf,l havevhel'eullt Set face on both sides of the juncture of the .my hand brims and crowns, 'connecting means for ROY C. WHEELER.
