means being adjustableto permit'varying the height of the board in use to accommodate persons of different heights. l
The improvedy ironing board comprises a cabinet provided with doors and having a transverse bar mounted lfor sliding movement in the side walls of the cabinet, and influenced in one direction by a spring. The bar is movable on a rod heldin the top and bottom of the cabinet and may be fixed at any desired vertical adjustment on said rod. The ironing board proper is connected at one end for pivotal or hinged connection with the transverse bar, and is further provided with a vert-ical support, arranged for adjustment` and adapted to be braced with relation to the board when in operative po sition, the support and brace being movable with respect to the board proper to permit all parts to be folded within the cabinet.
ln the drawings:
Fig. 1 is a view partly in section of the improved ironing board.
Fig. 2 is a broken sectional view of the same.
Fig. 8 is a broken view in elevation showing the mounting of the transverse bar in the cabinet.
4 is a` perspective view showing the mounting of the support with relation to the ironing board.
Fig, 5 is a vperspective view, illustrating the connection of the supporting leg to the ironing board.
The improved ironing board structure comprises a cabinet 1 of appropriate height, width, and depth, closed except at the front, where it may be provided with doors 2. The cabinet is mounted on rollers 3 and is thus readily portable, though means to be later described are provided to hold the cabinet against movement when the ironing board is extended for use.
The side walls 4 of the cabinet are formed on their inner surfaces with guide channels 5, preferably reinforcedby metal liningsf,` and slidably mountefdinl these channels iis a-r transverse bar 7. Thisbar isof skeleton` form and has its terminals l8 arrangedf'or sliding fit in the channels 5, and hence-the bar is readily movable verticallyy of the. cabinet. A spring 9 is connected,A to thefbary and to one mounting for the vertical ,shaft hereinaftermentioned,"`whereby the bar is influenced for movementfin' one direction',
ypreferably toward thev bottom of the cabinetr- A rod or shaft 10 ismounted vertically of the cabinet, vbeing threaded in upper and lower brackets 11, removably securedto the cabinet. The transverse wbar 7 is enlarged at to, provide ya sleeve..bearingv whichslidably fits the shaft,l 10, aj ,-set screw ,13 carrieldby the sleeve enlargment` being.
adapted to cooperate with any one of a series of recesses 14 formed in the vshaft 10 to hold the bar at various height adjust ments. The bar 7 is provided near its ends with hinge plates 15, the projecting gudgeons 16 of which are adapted to'receive an eye 17 projecting from the ironing board near each side thereof, a pintle 18 uniting these members to provide a removable hinged connection between the board proper and transverse bar 7.
Secured on the lower side of the board are pivot bracket 1.9 on which is pivotallyy secured a plate 20, which plate is formedwith spaced vertically disposedv elongated slots 21. The `lower edge of the plate 2() is formed with forwardly projecting eyes 22 adapted to receive the lateral terminals 23 of the arms 2d of a brace yoke, the cross bar. 25 of which is pivotally supported in ears 26 secured to the underside of the board at an appropriate distance from the brackets 19 toward the free end of the board. A supev porting leg E27 is adapted to be secured to the plate 20 by bolts 28 which pass through thev slots 21, these slots being of sufficient length to permit yvertical adjustment yof the leg relative to the ironing board proper to thereby permit supporting said board at different heights.
From the above it will be apparent thatwhen desired for use, the cabinet is moved to a position for convenient ironing, vthe doors are opened vand the ironing board turned outwardly, the transverse bar 7 being moved upwardly on'the shaft 10 and the set screw 13 operated to hold the board the desired elevation. The leg is now turned' downwardly and adjusted to lengage the floor-,and the brace yoke positioned to tix the leg against movement. Then not desired for use, the brace yoke is removed from the eyes 22 `and. the ironing board turned upwardly, the set -i screw 123 being withdrawn from locking position, permit-v ting the spring to move the transverse bar downwardly so that in the folding operation, the ironing boardis folded upwardly vwithin (the cabinet, the leg seeking `the apl propriate folding position by gravity.
The improved structure is highly orna? mental, permits the ironing boardvv to be usedy at any convenient position', and the board is readily held at adjusted heights as may be found desirable. rlhe various parts y are to be constructed of any appropriate materia-lsf, and in any convenient or desirable lrelative sizes v,with due regard to the character of ironing board to be used. n
H'Having thus described the invention, what fis claimedl as new, is
l. An ironing board structure, comprising a cabinet, abar slidable therein, a shaft on which said bar slides, means for securin the bar relative to the shaft,v an ironing and a support board hinged to the bar,
end
'hinged to the bar, a support hinged to the ironing board, and avbrace for said support.
3. A cabinet, a shaft arranged vertically thereof, a bar slida'bly engaging the shaft,
means for securing the bar to the shaft, the
channels to slidably receive the ends of the walls ofthe cabinet being formed with bar, an ironing board hinged to the bar, a
.support hinged'to the board, andi a spring` for operating the bar invone direction.
4:. A. cabinet, a bar slidable therein, a shaft extending through the'bar, a spring encirclingthe shaft for moving the bar, a
set screw' for lfixing thebar to the shaft, an ironing board hinged to the bar, a support hinged to the ironing board.
In testimony whereof I aflixmy signature.
