Description

% Witnesses: iwsmsn UNI ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WILLIAM G. BANKS, OF COMO DEPOT, MISSISSIPPI, ASSIGNOR TO REBEOOA BANKS, OF SAME PLACE.
IMPROVEMENT IN COTTON-BALE TIES.
Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 152,823, dated July 7, 1 874; application u'led De'ember 24, 1873.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that 1, WILLIAM G. BANKS, of 001110 Depot, in the county of Panola and State of Mississippi, have invented a new and Improved Cotton-Bale Tie; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portion of the bale-tie.
The invention relates to, and consists in, novel means for tying with facility, and without possibility of slip, the two ends of a baletie, as hereinafter more fully described.
A represents a band of thin sheet metal, andB a buckle having apertures b b,intern1ediate tongue I), and the side opening I)". The
' tongue 11 projects into the middle of the side opening bfland is bent down at the end below the plane of the side pieces I) b. In one of the apertures I) of the buckle is secured, by bending, or in any suitable manner, end a of band, while at a proper distance from the other end, 60 is formed the crimp a.
The band is placed around the bale and drawn tightly, when the crimp a is made at the proper distance from end a, and slid laterally over the tongue I). This causes the end a to project under end a while the band is in both apertures of buckle, and over the tongue. This produces an excellent tie, that can be applied with great 'apidity to bale after bale, and allows the band to be drawn to any degree of tightness, and yet to never jostle or work oft.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Let tel-s Patent, is-
The combination of band A and buckle B, the former crilnped near one end, and the latter having the tongue I) bent below the plane of side pieces If If, as and for the purpose described.
