Description
J. F. BENNET CALENDAR Filed March 20, 1923 Patented Jan. 27, 1925..
UNITED STATES JOHN FREDERICK BENNET, OF LONDON, ENGLAND.
CALENDAR.
Application filed March 20, 1923.
T0 aZZ whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JoHN FREDERICK Bnnnn'r, a subject of the King of Great Britain and Ireland, residing at 82 Queen Street, London, England, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in and Relating to Calendars, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to calendars of the kind in which a series of detachable or removable leaves, each having printed thereon the days of a month, are bound or connected together and mounted on a card or arranged loosely in a case together. Such calendars have been provided with an attachment to indicate each date in turn, said attachment comprising a frame or indicator mounted on one or more metal wires or strips of transparent material that extends or extend across the face of the front leaf and is or are movable either vertically or horizontally, said wire or strip or wires or strips being bent or caused at their ends to engage the calendar frictionally.
The present invention relates to such calendars as mentioned in which the frame or indicator is mounted on a strip of transparent material and the improvements relate to the attachment of the strip to the support or container of the leaves.
In carrying out this invention, the indicator or frame is mounted so as to be movable along a carrier comprising a strip of transparent and stiff but flexible material, such as non-flammable celluloid, and, according to this invention, the strip is secured to the leaf support or container by wrapping its ends around bars or strips integral with or constituting a part of the leaf support or container and holding its extremities in position by the main part of the strip.
In the accompanying drawing Fig. 1 is a perspective view of a calendar in which the leaves are directly mounted on a support; and
Fig. 2 is a similar view of a calendar in which the leaves are placed loosely within a container, a part of which is raised or detached for clearness of illustration.
1 is a support on which the leaves are secured by staples 2. The support is slotted, as shown at 8, oarallel with two of its sides. t is the indicator or frame carrying strip and 5 is the indicator or frame which is Serial No. 626,380.
mounted thereon; the frame 5 has slots in two of its side walls and the strip passes through these slots. The strip 4 is held in position at each end by passing an extremty A under the strip or bar 6 constituted by the portion of the support 1 between the slot 3 and the edge of the support, then through the slot 3 and bending it over the upper surface of the strip or bar 6, as shown so that it lies under and is pressed on by the main portion of the strip 1. In some cases, the extremities of the strip may be attached to the overlapping main part thereof by adhesive.
In Fig. 2 the strips or bars 6 are separate from and are secured at their ends to a support 1 and the strip 4 is secured as described above by folding the extremities A around the strips or bars 6. The frame 7 is then placed in position and secured in any convenient manner.
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent in the United States of America is 1. A calendar of the kind referred to comprising in combination, a support for the leaves of the calendar, parallel guide members in suitable positions on the sup port, a transparent strip extending between the guide members, an indicating frame slidable on said trai'isparent strip, turned round ends to the strip passing down the outsides and undersides of the guides and up the insides to lie on the uppersides be neath the main part of the strip, and means for holding the leaves of the calender in position on the support.
2. A calendar of the lcind referred to comprising in combination, a support for the leaves of the calendar, parallel guide strips at each side of the support and formed integrally therewith by slotting the support, a transparent strip extending between the guide strips, an indicating frame slidable on said transparent strip, turned round ends to said transparent strip passing down the outsides and undersides of the guides and up the insides to lie on the upper-sides be: neath the main part of the transparent strip, and means for holding the leaves of the cal-. endar in position on the support.
3, A calendar of the kind referred to com-. prising in combination a leaf container com: prising a base board and parallel guide bars mounted at their ends in suitable positions on said base board between which the leaves of the calendar are disposed, a transparent strip extending between the guide bars; an indicating frame slidable on said transparent strip, turned round ends to thestrip passing down the outsides and undersides of the guides and up the insides to lie on the uppersides beneath the main part of the strip, and means for holding the leaves of the calendar in position on the support.
Inwitness whereof I afiix my signature.
JOHN FREDERICK BENNE'I.
