-LOUIS A. HOERR,' OF ST. LOUIS, MISOURI, ASSIGNOR'TO WESTERN RAILWAY EQUIP- MENT COMPANY, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, A CORPORATION OF MISSOURI.
. o .FIIOOR CONSTRUCTION.
Appliegtion filed September To all whom it"maj concern:
Be it known that I, LoUIs A. HoERR, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at the city of St. Louis, State of Missouri, United States of America, have invented a certain new and useful Floor Construction, of which'the following is such a full, clear, and exact description as will enable any one skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification;
My invention relates to a floor construction and particularly to that type of floor construction shownand described in United States Patent No. 1,498,119
granted to Lucius S Pratt on June 17 ,1921.
The present invention consists in providing the retaining clip of a floor construction of the general type above referred to with an auxiliary member, preferably in the form of a strap, which engages with the board and thus prevents rotation of, the clip.
In the accompanying drawings which illustrate some forms of fioor construction made in accordance with my invention, Figure 1 is a vertical section; Figure 2 is a perspective'view of the clip; Figure 3 is a bottom plan View; Figure 4 is a vertical. section showing a modification; Figure 5 is a perspective view of the clip shown in Figure 4; Figure 6 is a sectional view showing a slight modification of the clip illustrated in Figure 5; Figure 7 is a perspective view showing a further modification of the strap; and Figure 8 is a bottom plan view, partly in section of the form shown in Figure 4.
Referring first to Figures 1, 2 and 3 of th drawings, 10 indicates a longitudinal 'central sill of a railway oar supporting floor boards 11. Formed in the boards 11 adjacent to the edge of the sill are bolt holes 12 through which pass bolts 13, the heads 14 of which arepreferably let into the boards as shown. Each of the bolts serves to secure in position a fastening clip consisting of a body portion 15, hearing against the floor board, and portionv 16 bent down out of the plane of the body portion at the proper angle to be fiat against the lower face of .the flange of the sill which it overlaps. A nut 17 on the threaded end of the bolt serves to hold the clip in position against theboard and sill.
20, 1924. Serial 'No. 738,812.
- in it into In order to prevent rotation of the clip I provide an auxiliary member, preferably in the form of a strap 18 embracing the clip'and provided with a pair of prongs 19 v entering the board 11, one at each Side of the clip, thus efl'ectively preventing rotation of said clip. The clip 18 is provided with an opening 20 for the passage of the bolt 13 so that the nut 17 bears upon the lowerface of the strap rather than against the clip. Projecting from the body of the strap is a wing 21 adapted to be bent over against one side of the nut, after the latterhas been secured into position, thus forming a lock for the nut.
In the modification shown in Figure 4 the nut 17 bears directly on the lower face of the clip and a narrow strap 22 provided with prongs 23 positioned at one side of the nut is used in lieu of the strap 18. This strap performs the same function as tlie strap 18 in preventing the rotation of the clip and locking the vnut; as, however, it
strengthen the strap and to assist in drivi v osition.
' aving fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States is:
1. In a device of the class described, the combination with a floor sill, of a floor board supported thereon, a clip engaging with the sill, means for securing the .clip
to the board, and an au xiliarly member engaging with the board and preventing r0- tation of the clip.
2. In a device of the class described, the
combination with a floor, sill, of a floor board supported thereon, a clip engaging with the sill, a bolt and nut securing the clip to the board, and an auxiliary member engaging with the boardand preventing rotation of the clip, said auxiliary member also serving to lock the nut.
3. In a device of the class described, the combination with a floor sill, of a floor board sill, means for securing the clip to theboard,
and a strap embracing the clip and having prongs entering the board, whereby the r0- tation of the clip is prevented.
4. In a device of the class described, the combination with a floor sill, of a floor board supported thereon, a -c1ip engaging with thesill, a strap embracing the clip and engaging with the board, and a bolt passing through said strap and clip for securing the latter to the board.
5. In a device or the class described, the
combination with a floor sill, of a floor board supported thereon, of a clip engaging with thesill, a. strap embracing the clip and having prongs entering the board, a bolt passing through said strap and clip, a nut on said bolt for securing the clip to the board, and a Wing on said strap adapted to be bent into locking engagement with the nut. In testimony whereof, I have 7 hereunto set my hand this the 18th day of September.
