L. C. MARSHALL TENT co'r Filed April 22n 1922 Wm amm/mil;
Patented June 17, 1924.
LORENA. C. MARSHALL, 0F DENVER, COLORADO.
TENT COT.
Application filed April 22, 1922.
To all whom t may concern.'
Be it known that I, LORENA C. MARSHALL a citizen of the United States, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful.Improvements in Tent Cots; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to tent cots, designed more particularly for automobiliste, and has for its object to provide a combined tent and cot which shall be free from bulky and complicated cot supporting mechanism and which can be manufactured at the minimum expense. The various features of novelty and invention will appear' from the detailed description of the invention taken in connection with the accompanying drawings forming part of the specification.
In the drawings,
Figure 1 is a plan view of the fabric making up the tent and cot, the fabric being laid out flat;
F ig. 2 is a side elevation of the preferred form of. the invention, and
Fig. 3 is a top plan view of the invention as shown in Fig. 2.
In the drawings, 10 represents the cot portion, 11 the roof of the tent, 12 the flap or front closure member and 13 the side curtains or members. The cot portion 10 is provided with eyelets 14 around its marginal edges, there being at least one eyelet at each corner of the cot and preferably one at each side thereof, as shown. The cot is supported by stakes 15 which are driven into the ground, the upper end of said stakes being of reduced diameter to form a shoulder on which the fabric may rest, it being understood that the eyelets are slipped over said reduted portions. I prefer to provide the stakes with suitable braces 16 to prevent the same from tilting under the weight of the occupant.
The tent is provided with loops 17 at the Serial No. 556,007.
.from a single sheet of fabric laid out as shown in Fig. 1, although the invention is not limited to such one piece structure.
The manner of setting up the device will be readily understood from Fig. 2. The stakes are iirst driven into the ground and the eyelets 14- slipped over the terminals of the same and the fabric then bent back upon itself as at a and extended upwardly, the loops being secured to any suitable object as previously stated. In view of the fact that the cot portion is free from attached mechanism, the device may be folded up into a convenient bundleand stored away in any suitable compartment of the automobile. This feature is of considerable importance since the storage of baggage space of automobiles is very limited.
What I claim is:
1. The combination of a tent cot, comprising integrally formed cot, top, side and end portions, a plurality of eyelets positioned at the corners of said cot portions, a plurality of supporting stakes having reduced end portions, said eyelets being adapted to set over and engage said reduced end portions, and triangular bracing means cooperating with said stakes for bracing and supporting the said cot portion from the ground.
2. The combination as in claim 1 and reinforcing bracing loops carried at the upper corners of the top of the tent, adapted to be attached to suitable guying means.
In testimony whereof I ax my signature.
LORENA C. MARSHALL.
