Description
Jan, 1, 1924 A. R. FOISY RAINCOAT Filed April 19, 1921 ATTORNEY WITNESS:
Patented J 1, 1924.
v UNITED STATESPATENT' oFFicE.
ANTOINE R; 'FOISY, OF SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS, ASIGNOR F ONE-FOURTH T0 GEORGEI. CONDON, SALEM, MASSACHUSETTS.
nanrcon'r.
Application filed Anril 19, 1921. Serial no. 462,636.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that'I, ANTOINE R. FoIsY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county of Essex and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Raincoats, of which the following is a specification;
My present invention has reference to improvements in rain coats.
My object is to produce a rain coat which is provided with leggings whereby both the legs and body of the user will be protected in stormy weather.
A further ob'ect is to produce a rain coat provided with leggings which, when not desired for use, may be folded and effectively supported from the inner sides of the coat.
Other objects and advantages will present "themselves as the nature of the invention is better understood, reference being had to the drawings which accompany and which form part of this application.
In the drawings Figure 1 is an approximately central vertical transverse sectional view through the coat, the legging being folded and supported on the inner side of the coat.
Figure 2 is a similar view but showing the legging extended. 7
Figure 3 is a sectional view on the line 3-3 ofFigure 2.
Figure 4 is a fragmentary perspective View of the legging, showing the manner in which one-of the edges thereof is reinforced to prevent the entrance of moisture between the abutting edges.
The coat proper of my improvement, indicated by the numeral 1 is of the usual construction. The coat 1, adjacent the side thereof has stitched or. otherwise secured thereto tabs 2. It should be stated here that for the purpose of illustration, only one legging is shown in the drawings as both leggings are of like construction. These tabs 46 adjustably engage buckles 3 on the ends of tabs 4 that are secured to the upper ends of the legging 5. Each legging is constructed of a single sheet of suitable waterproof material, the edges thereof being arranged one so over the other. The inner edge for distinction, is indicated by the-numeral 6, and as disclosed by the drawings is folded upon itself to provide a bead 7. Adjacent the edge 6 but spaced from bead 7 there are compressible studs 8 which are designed to be received in compressible sockets 9 on the outer edge 10 of the legging. Each legging has its lowerportion provlded with a foot extension 11 that is designed to be arranged over the shoe of the user for preventing 60 water seeping through theupper of the shoe, and if desired an adjustable foot strap 12 ma be provided at the lower and inner en of each legging. The foot portion of each legging has on its inner face sockets 66 13 that are designed to be received in compressible studs 14 secured to the inner and upper edge of the legging. The studs are received in the sockets when the leggings are folded upon themselves against the inner sides of the coat, as clearly disclosed by the drawings. By adjustably securing each legging to the sides of the coat, a stock size of the improvement may be worn by persons of varying statures.
On the sides, below the adjustable supporting means for the leggings there is secured the ends of a strap 15, the folded legging being passed between the strap and the side of the coat when the leggings are not in use, and thus flapping of the leggings will be prevented.
It is thought that the foregoing description, when taken in connection with the drawings will fully set forth the construction and advantages of the improvement, and therefore further detailed description will not be attempted.
Having described the invention, I claim A rain coatprovide with a plurality of elongated tabs" secured to the inner sides thereof and having a legging on'each side including buckles adjustably secured to the tabs, each of fsaid leggings having their inner edges folded upon themselves to pro- 05 vide beads, each of said leggings having afoot portion and a foot strap, interengaging means at the edges of each legging, each of .said leggings having its inner side adjacent to its top edge -pro v1ded with compressible studs, the foot portion of each legging having sockets designed to receive the studs when each leggmg 1s folded, and transverse straps having their ends secured to the inner sides of the coat, for engaging the folded 106 legging as and for the purpose specified.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature.
ANTOINE R. FOISY.
