ZAIDA B. WEBB, OF NEW HAVEN, CONNECTICUT.
CARD CUT-OUT.
Application filed October 2, 1922. Serial No. 591,718. I
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ZAIDA B. WEBB, a citizen of the United States, residing at New Haven, in the county of New Haven and btate of Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Card Cut-Outs; and I do hereby declare the following, when taken in connection with the accompanying drawings and the characters of reference marked thereon, to be a'full, clear, and exact description of the same, and which said drawings constitute part of this application, and represent, in-
Fig. 1 a perspective view of a card cut-out constructed in accordance with my invention.
Fig. 2 a sectional view on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1.
Fig. 3 a perspective view of another form of my invention, shown in the closed position.
Fig. 4 a perspective view of the same on a smaller scale 1n the open position.
Fig. 5 a View of another modified form of my invention, shown in the closed position.
Fig. 6 a face view of the same with the flap open.
ig. 7 a view of still another form of my invention.
Fig. 8 a face View with the figure entirely cutdout and supporting a separately formed car This invention relates to improvement in card cut-outs, that is,..cards of paper, celluloid, thin metal, etc., to be used for placecards, greeting cards, valentines, bill folds, advertising, and many other purposes, the object of the invention being to form the card with a figure, a part of which is cut out to form a projection beneath which the edge of the card may be inserted, and the invention consists in the construction as hereinafter described and particularly recited in the claim.
In carrying out my invention, I employ a card 10 transversely folded to form a flap 11 adapted to be folded over the outer face of the card. Upon the card is printed 21 figure of any desired design, for instance, as in Big. 1, an owl may be employed, and the claws 12 and 13 are cut out to form projections beneath which the upper edge of the flap 11 may be turned, so as to be held in the folded position. The beak 1 1 may also be partly cut out to hold a small card 15, particularly adapting the device for place-cards, as shown in Fig. 8 of the drawings. As also shown in Figs. 1 and 2 of the drawings, the upper part of the figure may be cut out from the card, and the upper portion 16 of the card turned down to form a rest, like an easel. Or, instead of turning back the upper part of the card 10, the upper part may be entirely removed, as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 of the drawings, and the flap 11 extended to the top of the card 10, to be engaged by the hill 17 of a figure, and in this construction, the card 10 may be slit near its lower end to form a support 18. In the case of some designs, as shown in Figs. 5 and 6 of the drawings, a part of the card 10, at the bend of the flap 11, may be cut out to indicate claws or feet 19, which ma be turned forward, as shown in Fig. 5. Fig. 7 difiers only in design, as it has a cut-out figure and a projection 20, beneath which the flap 11 extends. In case the flap is not employed, the entire outline of the figure will appear, as shown in Fig. 8, the claws 12 and 13 providin means for mounting the card upon the e ge of a glass. or other similar article.
I thus provide cards, the card or the flap of which may be printed or decorated as desired, and providing an attractive holder for cards or money, or providing an advertising medium.
I claim:
A card cut-out, comprising a card folded to form a flap, said card, including a figure, slotted to form projections beneath which the ed e of the fia may extend, and a por tion of the card adapted to be turned rearward, forming an easel support therefor.
In testimony whereof, I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
ZAIDA. B. WEBB.
