DANCING-DOLL TOY. v
Application me@ may 14,
To @ZZ cli/tom, I? 'may concern.'
Be it known that I, NAsTlxsios TonR'rAs, a subject of the of Greece, and a resi- Cook County, and State of illinois, have invented certa-in new and use-l ful lmprovements in Dancing-Doll Toys, of which the following is declared to be a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to dancing doll toys and its principal object is to provide a toy which is interesting, entertaining and attractive. Another object is to provide a toy which embodies an articulated figure similating a human being, with means for actuating the toy in amanner simulating more nearly the dancing steps and poses of human beings while dancing. The invention consists kin atoy, embodying an articulated figure similating a human being mounted on a post or standard, and provided with a flexible connection which is taken hold of and given a series of jerks to impart the movements to the toy figure.
rlhe invention further consists in the several. l
novel features hereinafter fully set- ,forth and claimed. j
The invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which and partly in central, vertical section ,ofa dancing doll toy embodying a simple form of the presentinvention; Fig. 2 is a horizont-al section taken on line 2 2 of Fig. 1 and Fig. 3 is a fragmental, detail side elevation of a rcertain guide member for the doll support-ing post or standard.
Referring to said drawing, the reference character 5 designates a box or base having a door 6 hinged to its open front by hinges 7 and provided with a latch 8 whereby it may be secured in closed position. In the top 9 and bottom 10 of the boX is secured a vertically extending guide member 11 which extends between said top and bottom and for convenience in construction, is let into recesses or depressions formed in the opposing faces of said top and bottom 9, 10. Said guide member is preferably in the form of a tube, andl intermediate its ends it is provided with an outlet opening 12 in whic-h is secured an eye member or loop 13, preferably formed of a piece of wire, bent into a l'oop and secured to the guide member 11, as for instance by wrapping the wire around it. The eye or loop 13 projects into the outlet opening 12 and forms a smooth bearing sury 6. Qbv'iOuSIy,

face .for an actuating cord 14, as will be presently explained. An opening 15 in the door, in linewith the eye 13, affords an `outlet through the box for the cord, rwhereby it maybe taken hold box in manipulating vthe toy figure. y
in the guide member 11 is a post vor standard, preferably in the 'form of a wooden stick 17, which projects out through a hole inthe top of thebox above the guide member 11, is secured the flexible member 14, which may .comprise a cord, string or the like, which extends through the eye member 18 'and may .lead out through the opening 15 in the door cated by jerking the cord 14.l
' iiemovably secured upon theupper end of said post 14 is an articulated Figure 19 (here shown in the form of at'oy doll), in
and to the bottom of said post.
of at one sideof the l the pos-t 17 may be recipro-- which the .legs 2O .are flexibly connected tol the body portion 21 by strings, twine, cord or the like 22. Preferably, the dollI is clothed with a skirt23l that coversthe joints between the body and legs. socket 24 formed inL the body of the doll, receives the upper end of the postl 17. The
. doll may be' readily detached from the post, Fig. 1 is a view partly in side elevation and the-post removed from the guide tu-be for the purpose of storage ortransportation. ln assembling the parts, the end of the post having the cord fastened the-reto, is inserted into the guide member, andy the cord pulled ont through the' eyelby any suitable hook and led out through the opening 15 in the door 6. The doll 19 is then placed on the top of is ready for use.
The cord 14 is taken hold of and given a series of jerks, and to obtain the best results, similating a person, in the act of dancing, the jerks are made in time to music. In the drawing, the doll is shown in full lines in a position in which its feet are free from the top of the box, as though in the act of jumping or hopping, and in vdotted lines, it is shown in a position with its legs crossed, resting on the top of the boX, as though making a bow. By properly manipulating the cord, the feet may be made to dance on the top of" the box, and because of the flexible connection. with the post and its unrestricted movement in the tube, the doll may be moved up and down as desired, and as the post is free to rotate back and forth in the tube, the doll is free to turn and does turn the post 17 and the toy A vertical back and forth when the cord is manipulated. The top of the box acts as a platform for the doll to dance on.
