Description

B. F. CLICK. W'uuI-Sawing"Machin-es. No. 143,330, l P ateniedSe"ptember30,1873.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
BENJAMIN F. CLICK, OF NEWARK, INDIANA.
IMPROVEMENT IN WOOD-SAWING MACHINES.
Specificationforming part of Letters Patent No. 143,330, dated September 30, 1873; application filed May 31,1873.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, BENJAMIN F. CLICK, of Newark, in the county of Greene and State of Indiana, have invented a new and valuable Improvement in Wood-Sawing Machines 3 and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings making a part of this specification, and to the letters and figures of reference marked thereon.
Figure 1 of the drawings is a representation of my machine in plan view, and Fig. 2 is a side elevation, part in longitudinal section, of the same.
The nature of my invention consists in the construction and arrangement of a machine for sawing logs, wood, &c., as will be hereinafter more fully set forth.
In order to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
Like letters of reference indicate corresponding parts.
A represents the frame-work of my machine constructed in any suitable and convenient manner to contain the various working parts. In the upper part of the frame A is a horizontal shaft, a, to be provided with a crank at either or both ends, as it is desired to have one or two men operate the machine. On this shaft is a pulley, C, connected by a belt, B, with a pulley on a counter-shaft, b. Upon the front end of the shaft b is a liy-wheel, D, provided with a radial slot, d, through which passes a bolt, c, to pivot the pitman G at any desired distance from the center ofthe wheel, and thereby regulate the length of the stroke at will. The front end of the pitman G is hinged to a cross-head, E, which slides on guides h h, and has the saw-arm H hinged to it at its other end. I represents the saw firmly secured to or in the outer end of the saw-arm H. The guides h h, upon which the crosshead E slides back and forth by the movement of the pitman, are attached to a frame, J, which is adjusted and held at any suitable height, according to the thickness of the log to be sawed, by a bolt, fm, to a vertically-slotted standard, K, attached to the main frame A. To the adjustable frame J is attached the slotted saw-guide L.
The machine thus constructed is, though simple and cheaply gotten up, durable and effective, doing all the work ordinarily required by farmers, and can be moved with ease to any place where it is desired to be used.
When the machine is not in use, or while being moved, the saw and saw-arm may be thrown over back onto the pitman alongside of the ily-wheel.
What I claim as new, and desire by Letters Patent, is-
Tfhe combination of the frame A, shafts a b with pulleys and belt, slotted fly-wheel D, adjustable pitman G, cross-head E with saw-arm and saw-guides h h, adjustable frame J, and saw-guide L, all constructed and arranged substantially as and for the purposes herein set forth. j
In testimony that I claim the above I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
BENJAMIN F. CLICK.
